Looking at new Flame thrower tips for my 1971 440 Charger. They are offered in long or short, black inserts or red inserts.
What would be original?
What applications used each version?

Long distance is always best with a flame thrower.
The longer the distance the target has to run back toward you while in flames, the better.

Are you talking about machine gun tips like these? If you have the option of red and black why wouldn't you get the red ones.

Funny when I googled Dodge Charger flame thrower tips nothing came up. You google machine gun tips you get these...

Long ones came when the car didn't have resonators. My 71 Hemi Charger had resonators so it had short tips. My Road Runner originally came with a 383 so no resonators and long tips.

The normal tips that slide into tailpipes have two different lengths.

The resonator tips are a different deal again. They attach to the resonators, and are a third variation.

Pretty. Mine were till I broke the engine in lol.

Long and red should be originals for Chargers.... shorts are for Plymouth... all red. Black are aftermarket option since they use to get burnt/blacked with time so aftermarket manufacturers thought on that option from the begining and don't get worried about burnt the red finish.

That is what I have assumed all along, but have never had it confirmed.

Actually 3rd and 4th variation as they are long and short also..

Not true. I have seen many NOS spot welded originals over the years in original boxes that were black. I have never seen any original cars that were black from the factory as these I believe were later issue original Mopar ones..
