What did you do today....other than work on your car!?

Wayne inspired me to patch the wall where the wall mount was for the TV, texture and paint. First coat still drying.

New springs, rollers and cables for our 2 car garage door. Tomorrow, install new Genie Door opener.
 
My chair all fixed and I found I had 8 pieces of casing in my spares, just enough to do the three interior door frames. Fortunately my shop air line just made it to the house basement to use the brad nailer! Baseboard is astronomical these days at over $30/8 foot length... so that's gonna have to wait and I'm going to get back to my cars. Let me clear that with the boss... LOL

Mowed the leaves and some weeds yesterday. Around here the leaves fall all winter long then in the spring the leaves fall off the live oaks as the new leaves start budding in. Wish I had known that 35 years ago when I planted different species of trees or I wouldn't have lol.

Where I live the deed restrictions only said that you could have a 3 car garage but a hobby/work space was allowed so the building got a double wide single door in the front and a 10 footer in the back. There's no mention of sq footage though :D Caught deputy dawg's attention since the building is 52 feet long and he gave me a ration of crap starting with wanting to see my permit. It was hanging on the entry door and he didn't even notice it and told him to go to the city inspector's office and pull it up. Things when downhill from there but I outlived him.

Working on replacing the clutch in my 4010 JD. The was no adjustment left in the clutch so I thought I would replace it over this winter. Come to find out the old farmer that I bought it from either never owned a grease gun or didn't know you had to grease the throw out bearing for the main clutch and the PTO clutch. The throw out bearing had locked up and it cut the end off of the tube it mounts to and was just hanging on the shaft to the trans. It was actually still working. Usually when this happens it cuts the fingers off the pressure plate. The throw out bearing for the PTO sounded like it had gravel in it. Got in there and found out the rear main seal was leaking so had to replace it, and at some time the pilot bearing had gone out and the end of the trans shaft had a groove cut in it about .100 deep. So I had to remove the clutch housing from the trans to replace the trans shaft. Found evidence of some pretty shoddy work performed at some time as the crank had several nicks where the wear sleeve for main seal mounted, and there were nicks in the trans shaft where the seal runs for the trans oil. Has cost considerable amount of money to fix but it will be like new when I'm done. This tractor is a 1962 model and you can go to the dealer and still get all the parts to fix anything on it.

Used to could find parts for my 1984 Gravely garden tractor on Ebay but they seem to be drying up. I need to replace the PTO shaft coupler and the last one I saw on Ebay was a used one for 250 and thought that was too pricey....and that was awhile ago.
 
Well I got out to the shop, but not to do what I wanted. Not sure if I'm glad or sad that I never sold my Daughter's old practice beam for the 50 bucks I had it listed for last year. Something I put together quickly for her some 25 years ago when she was headed towards Olympic level gymnastics. Wasn't sure until I ripped the carpet off, but it's some nice wood and is going to become the fireplace mantel if I can make it work..

Traveling across the land, over a month on the road... and a month to go....
What an incredible country this is!
 
Trimmed tree branches and limbs. Cut down some small trees. Trimmed some indigenous shrubs.

Wife is the picher taker..... when we get home i will post some.
Basicly started the real trip in north Carolina, worked our way down the coast and across florida panhandlel and huged the gulf all the way to corpus cristi, now headed to scottsdale az, where i have a place.
This is a slice of usa that i never did before,now there isn't much left to do.
We are in no hurry, just love every minute.
 
Drove 120 miles to NH yesterday, cleared the driveway of 3" of recent snow. Cut down a tree branch that was spoiling the lake view. Cut it up & dragged it across the ice into the woods. Stopped in at the well pump place & got more water filters. Drove back south and met with a customer who owed us a payment, went to the airport and got another 25 gallons of 100 octane avgas. Got back home at 12:30, ate lunch and went for a walk with Sumbit. Relaxed for a couple hours and then installed a couple ceiling lights for Submit's sewing area. Finished up around 8:00 last night. That was enough for one day.
 
Wife told me to take the day off and go out and putter in the shop!!! I cleaned the wood "mantel" up a bit with a wire wheel and spot tested some Varathane to see what it would look like. Then I spent 2.5 hours staring at my f'n mess trying to figure out wtf I'm going to do to tidy up the place, got discouraged and came back into the house!
 
Ran conduit and wire to 2 post lift, I have been running it from a drop cord.
 
Went to the Henry Ford museum with the family, many high points like the cars and trains, low point is being in a museum and seeing things from your era/life already in a display case (ugh)
But the family made it a great day as always
