Mystery stains on glass....How do you clean these ??

I have buffed out minor imperfections in glass using a mixture of 3 parts pumice hand cleaner mixed with 1 part rubbing compound and my buffer. Took out scratches in windshield glass and my wife’s glass dinnerware.

That thing sat under something drippy for a long time?? Like maybe a wet rusty bridge, or a maybe zinc damaged from a rotten roof with a lot of galvanized nails?? Even the roof shows the same streaks. I don't think any birds did that.
Here is how the car sat for at least 15 years:

It may be something acidic has etched the glass. Perhaps bird poo or tree sap. Is were the mark is smooth or rough after a gentle clean? If it can be felt with your fingertip you may not have much luck.
Glass is actually quite hard.
You could use a very fine automotive paint polishing system. You can use a mechanical paint buff but do not go to fast and keep the glass cool or it will shatter.

At least your car was in California, not somewhere in the rust belt! There's actually something left.

These stains look like oil had dripped on the glass for years but you cannot feel it with a fingernail. It is smooth.

You might be lucky.
I would try buffing across the stain not in line with it to blend it out - if you get what I mean.

I would start with muratic acid in case it is from iron deposit/rust. Wear gloves, mask and be downwind.

I have used a product up here in canada called autosol made in germany it has worked for me with stains in glass . hopefully that staining has not etched the glass . try a least conspicious spot to do your testing .

Autosol is good stuff I’ve used it on more than one occasion to polish out instrument cluster lenses works great

Here's what I've used to get micro scratches out of glass. It should work for those stains.

I have a rear glass for my 68 Road Runner that has some scratches that look like someone was using a rough car cover that may have had dirt/sand on it. Do you use this product with a drill and buffing wheel? And where can I purchase some?
Thanks,
Scott

Go on YouTube and look for some videos. You need to use a buffer that runs at around 2000 rpm
and monitor the heat that you're putting into the glass! You may be able to use a drill, but probably
spinning your wheels. I've fixed scratches in glass by cleaning the scratch with a toothbrush and soap,
then cleaning with Acetone and a toothbrush. Buy a Rainex windshield repair kit and put a small dab of the
resin on the scratch and then apply one of the Mylar strips that comes with the kit. Cure the resin by putting
it in the sun for a few hours, and then remove the mylar and buff the area with Cerium Oxide. Like it
never happened!

I think this is best, although slow and you have to get the glass real clean of anything that the hard fabric rotary buff might pick up and scratch the glass. I’ve also heard ceramic stove top cleaner works well but I didn’t have much luck with it on some hard water spots

Eastwood is one source but I bet you can find it on Amazon too. I’ve used a drill but as noted above a high speed buffer will probably work better. Get the glass clean as possible and if it feels rough it would be a good idea to clay it first. Those hard buffs, if they pick up a piece of grit it will ruin your day.

I've used a product called Bar Keeper's Friend on glass surfaces similar to glass or ceramic cooking tops on kitchen ranges. It's claim to fame: "It hasn't scratched yet" maybe worth a try?

I’ve used this product as well. Works good on metals such as brass , aluminum, stainless steel etc. I never thought to try it on glass though. I will now.

Where you at with this, you get it clean or half-*** cleaned yet? Do some homework on how to clean glass stovetops and try that. It works wonders with my stovetop! Good Luck
