22 years ago today, I bought THIS:

Hey O, I think I know exactly who you are talking about, they were down town with red and white tow trucks and very acquainted with the PD chief years ago. You still see a few of their trucks running around with different names on them but the colors and paint scheme are theirs.

Bought the Charger in March of 2003. Bought the Challenger in November 1986. The Challenger looks pretty much the same as it did when I bought it. Repainted the hood and put a new top on, also converted to black interior. Still have the original hubcaps they look like the ones Kern Dog had on his Charger except they say Challenger in the center.

DIG those hubcaps!

So.....When did you buy your current "Halo" car ?

Your car's made quite the journey! I love it.
I bought mine in October 2000. Mostly complete and rust-free 318/904 driver for $3500 (or maybe it was $3000?) Ain't finding those deals on decent '68 B-bods (or '68 anythings) anymore, that's for sure!

Hey KD, Had that same '70 charger bought new in 1970. Same color, EF8, same engine, and probably trans and axel. Even the same hubcaps. Only difference I can see is mine was a XH model made in St.Lou on 2/23. Not fast, but could beat most VWs I came across. Only had it for 4 months.

My first mopar came in 87..I was 14...being a twin "we" used dad's pickup and borrowed a car trailer, drove 10 miles to town on back roads and bought this 69 charger. It's funny being that young...No one said a thing. Hard to imagine a 14 year old doing that today. But it's a 318 charger, original white/ black top blue interior equipped with ac, cruise control, console and am/fm.
After all these years I have the car in the shop to start the restoration. It has tags on it from 1982. We used the 8 3/4 in another car. We swapped the hood for our other 69. Bought it for $50 back then.

A couple months later in 87 a we located another charger, but 383 4v auto ac originally F6 green black interior. It was Grey primer. We didn't know what F6 green was back then and decided to try citrus yellow(curious yellow) as we liked the color on a 340 duster a friend was storing on our farm. It still has the same paint job that my brother and I did after we got home from high school in 1988. It has had a 510 cu inch engine since '94.

We bought our 72 satellite in 1988. Drove it also in high school. Put a turbocharger on the mid 90s, got sick of working on it...pulled the 318 and in went a 440. We will have a 542 done for it this month. We still do everything ourselves, paint, body, int, and drivetrains. But there is two of us:)

We bought our 65 dart in '91 drove it to college. Should have it running soon with the 383.

Hey M&M, I can't believe 2 photos taken 45 years apart can be so alike. It seems time stands still in N. Indy. Your car looks great, you've done a great job of preserving it all these years. The second photo is 8 years old now and I guess it still looks exactly the same.

Thanks, you're very kind, but I didn't really "preserve" it. I drove it long and hard over the years. It has gone through many phases in its lifetime with me as do most of our cars. The 2014 photo is right after I finished the restoration back to near factory stock. I wanted to recreate the photo of it from 1969 and this is as close as I could get it.

Yes, I guess it still looks about the same now, with only a few minor changes in the last 8 years. Below is a photo of the Bee last summer at a cruise, June of 2021.

Looks like you're the only one who showed up at the cruise. :D

Small town cruise-in, so yes you are partially right. Most were parked in the larger part of the lot (in the sun) and as you can see I chose the shade (it was very hot that day). Also, many cars had left by the time I took this shot.

I forgot to mention....I paid $1700 and drove it home with a huge smile!
The first thing that I did to that car was scrape off the remaining scraps of white vinyl top. A week after buying it, the engine in my truck spun 3 rod bearings so I drove the Charger to work with my construction tools. I commuted 124 miles a day for a month while I was dealing with the engine rebuild in the truck.
Commute traffic with 4 wheel drums was a lot different than I was used to. Within a week after the truck was running, I converted the front of this car to 11" A body discs from THIS car:

I bought my 73 Road Runner in 1981 from my sister (who bought it in 1979). Many of you have seen these, but for those of you that haven't...
Here it is as purchased in 1979 - my dad is driving it up the driveway.

My dream car was always a 1970 Road Runner with an Air Grabber. That came along in 2011. It had been sitting for about 17 years after being purchased in California, moved to PA, and then forgotten. When I got the opportunity to buy it, I jumped on the deal! At some point in its life, someone put a crease all down the passenger side of the car. I think it was then it was painted yellow from the original Limelight.

Here are the two of them just a couple of months ago.

Were you driving big hills in your commute? Was running my first 66 Belvedere back in 69-70 with a mild 383 with 10" drums about 80 miles a day and mostly freeway without any problems stopping for backups when all of a sudden everyone came to a dead stop for no reason at all and many times that happened on a one way trip home or going to work. And pretty much like now, 70-80 was normal speeds back then. The factory shoes were removed as soon as I got the car though and premium shoes were installed. That car cost me a whopping 500 bucks in 69 but half of the value of the car back then was my 'gradiation' present.

Were you driving big hills in your commute?

No....The drive was as flat as Florida. There are plenty of 75 mph-0 and 0-75, then 75-0 episodes though.
