Smoke from the dash the other day indicating something amiss. Would like to remove entire dash and go through it completely. Manual shows procedures to remove trim panel and instrument cluster... figured I should remove dash in it's entirety while I am tearing things down, replace firewall insulation, install hushmat yada yada. Is it possible to get the entire dash out as-is or must the windshield be removed in order to get to all removal hardware?
 
windshield needs to come out to get to the front screws. plus there may be rust hiding under the gasket.
 
LOL .. you're gonna pull the windshield and end up doing a full blown resto - guaranteed !!! Just do the minimum to address the issue and get back to driving the car.

Here's my suggestion. Disconnect the battery. Pull all the connectors off the bulkhead connector in the engine compartment. Make sure all your fuses are good in the fuse block. Now check all pins for "ground" which will indicate a short. Repeat the process with they key in the "on" position.

If this doesn't point to the problem you'll have to poke around under the dash to find the culprit.

Thank you for the reply. Thinking (and researching) ahead, once the dash is done and the windshield is ready to go back in, are there two seals that are needed or only one? Classic Industries seems to indicate that the following might both be required. One appears custom shaped and the other is a butyl tube. I have not yet removed my windshield as the car is pulling me in numerous directions. Insight?

As I noted in your other thread... the only windshield gasket you want is from Precision Part # WCR-D715

Wayne why this gasket? I bought one from AMD when I bought the windshield. Just asking because I only want to do this once.
 
Who's did they ship??

Precision because I know it works and was Richard's top recommendation. Steele is probably another...

Guess I should of looked, they sent Precision .
 
While on the dash topic ...

What about installing the clips on the dash then screwing it in from below - to facilitate future removal without taking the windshield out (should the need arise) ??

From a manufacturing point screwing it in from the top before installing the glass was obviously less labor intensive but since we're not concerned with that ... !!
 
this guy is rough but it give you an ideal in whats involved
