Does anyone have any info on rebuilding a 65 Coronet heater control valve . Doing a search was no help .

Detroit Muscle sells the replacement gasket set. it's an easy disassemble, push the plunger out the opening and the tabs get bent back carefully. Clean the parts and make sure you don't damage the copper coil. Install new diaphram and rubber plug on stem and push back inside. I would media blast assembly if you can.

I did this not too long ago, this was on a 1962 Belvedere but I believe the valves use the same seal. Ranco is the mfr. of the valve assembly. Looking back, you could probably use a sealant on the new diaphram but mine has been leak free. Bending the tabs back was a bear and the hardest part. The only part I could not find was the internal flap (could be rigged with something else).

I had done a rebuild on the valve for my 63 Fury and just couldn't ever achieve a stop leak. I thought it was the o ring on the core pipe trying different sizes. Did anyone encounter this problem?

thanks. great pics from threewood on the resto. it's been several years since I had this all ripped out so my memory has faded and now older making getting this back out a harder chore! I've run the car for years with the core bypassed only driving in summer anyway. As I recall there were after market valves non-rebuildable and think my car had one. I found an original in a boneyard doing the resto on it. I'll check out the site mentioned.

I had my control valve rebuilt by Moparmall. It looks brand new, but if it's supposed to have an O ring on the pipe that goes into the heater core I didn't got one. Is there a source for that? I also need a diagram for the vacuum lines that go to the heater vacuum control box. Mine was also rebuilt. The lines are labeled but they were done by the previous owner some time ago and are now faded and almost unreadable. Is there a source for that? Thanks

It was that o-ring that did me in trying several of them never getting a solid seal. I gave it up after redoing the interior fearing another drip-drip of coolant on the new carpet. I only drive my car in warm weather so bypassed the core 10 years ago. There were maybe three occasions driving where it would have been nice to have defrost. I see some links above for parts - did you check those out?

I took the heater valve for my 64 fury to my local John Deere dealer and they had an O ring that worked well and no leaks.

Local auto parts store has some and Detroit Muscle has them.

Went with a basic on off generic valve...... car is drove mostly summer and didn't want my new carpets ruined
