Also, worlds fastest rowboat, at the end of its last lap......
Was that the same car ?
or one of the newer ones/renditions of Spirit of the USA ?,
THAT WENT SWIMMING/BOATING when the chute & brakes failed IIRC

I DON'T REMEMBER

It's amazing how many of those shots I can identify the location by the background. Been to, and raced on most of those socal locations, including riverside. (Yes that was Riverside in the Petty shot.)
I'm curious about the Bagwell shot. Don't know for sure, but I THINK that was Ontario!
BTW, THANKS, for the shots, @Budnicks

I'm pretty sure it was '1977' Ontario Motor Speedway
what was the old "World Finals",
that place/racetrack was the place to be
lots of great events, I remember a crapload of 32 car Fuel & F/C fields
when I was younger, by 77' it was tappering off a lil'
my stepdad Bob raced his SS or MP GTOs & Firebird there
I loved the Fuel Altereds shows there

I raced my 23 T AA/Gas 301cid Milodon/sbc/pg 6# per/cid there
in 1979-1980 (?) maybe
got put on the trailer 1st round :BangHead: that's long drive to go out 1st rd
all the way from Concord, East Bay Area, NorCal
I ran almost perfect for the/my class national index was 8.10 IIRC,
the guy I ran was nearly 3 seconds slower
I got to sit at the line up on the converter at 5,400 rpm (killed the trans)
for what seemed like a long time
but he was about a 3/10ths better than the/his class national index,
like 11.00 & he ran a 10.70 (?) (120-ish IIRC)
beat me by about maybe car & a half, I was running him down @ 160+
but not enough real-estate, to make up 3/10ths
Comp Eliminator (Top-Gas, Pro-Comp back then etc.) was/is still cutthroat,
but you can/could run all out

IIRC Bob Tietz (spell) won the event, 32 car field, 5 rds
in a N/A 23 T Altered sbc chevy/pg, running 9.9 something
he was a really good racer,
he also had (sort of like yours) a fast lil' Candy Red-ish 73 Opel GT sbc/pg
running 8.90 S/C or 9.90 S/G later on too
my old roommate Dan B. bought that Opel/as a roller
& put a 377cid Brodix headed/PG combo I had in it, running S/G 9.90
it'd run 9.0s if he wanted

Pretty sure that S&M AWB Barracuda was shot at the original Irwindale.
(Where you could get an in-n-out burger, minus the tomato, at the concession stand)
And my trip to Ontario Motor Speedway was shorter than yours. About twelve miles.

This is my Dad's cousin. Canadian drag racing hall of famer, and multi record holder in top alcohol. They were running un-blown nitro in TA as well.
The rig has won many awards as well :)
thank you for your reply.
I absolutely loved the rig and wished I knew someone there to chat with.
I love this drag racing world and have apart of it in my past. Cheers
