MECUM predicts $1 Million + for Hemi Daytona at INDY

Ill predict between 6 and 700 k. Reserve not met.
No sale .

The people who can afford a hemi daytona. Can afford to wait for a better color combination.

Pretty sure Spade sold his not long after he bought it.

That car has traded hands a few times since Spade owned it.

I believe its up in the New England states now i believe

I predict... no sale...
Auction drama.

I'll go with @dadsbee prediction of no sale.
yeah Mecum 'reserve auctions'
are like 40% of them (my viewing opinion) going across the block
don't meet reserves, go on to 'the Bid Goes On Desk' at a min.
a decent % of them don't sell either

I sort of wonder, too...

I do think it will sell 'How much ?, who knows'
& it gets tucked away in some collection/museum etc.
never seen or driven & it will come up for sale, in a couple of years again,
like they always do...

it's always like that

& I'll still watch...

I was just reading an article from 2021 that David Spade (Joe Dirt)
still owned the $900k ex-Tim Wellborn Copper/Bronze Hemi Daytona,
it was mostly about his wealth
his houses, his family, his movies, his net worth etc.,
very lil' mention of the car, but it was mentioned in the article

sorry I didn't copy the link

I actually like the Green color combo on that car...

many people like green, especially metallics
it was & represents the 60's & 70's colors
most my "collecter" cars & also many of my trucks
have been greens or various shades of greens
or teals or a blueish, like Turquoise

my favorite was my 68 Charger R/T in GG1 & Black
my 99 SLT Dakota 4x4 is Emerald Green Pearl & sliver

I personally like the green exterior. But would change the interior to white.

Going off of memory. Spade resold the bronze car maybe a year later, give or take a while.
it went thru a broker out of Florida and I believe is now in Rhode Island or maybe Connecticut area maybe ???? somewhere up along the east coast states

Car sold as a pkg deal with a hemi Bird to one guy

The mom of a friend of mine drove a hemi 4-speed Daytona in the early 70’s. Her dad got it cheap as a leftover. She hated it. Comment was, “the only good thing about it was that I could find it in a parking lot”. This was around Erie, PA. Red car, black interior.
Same story with the '69 Hemi Road Runner our local dealer sold back in the day. Sat nearly two years before the original owner bought it for $3500.

Not a Daytona, but it's a Hemi, it's green, and a previous owner loved it enough to keep it 31 years, and drive it too. If I'm lucky, I might do the same. Some do get driven.

Then there's this C500 at the same auction for the "poorer" bidders.

I follow most of these auctions pretty closely, particularly over the last 10 years or so. These winged Hemi cars have historically brought $400-500k. A million seems like wishful thinking even with the increase in values in Mopars seen across these auctions this year.

Most optioned Daytona? With dog dishes? Doesn't sound right.
Sounds right to me, after actually looking at the options. This car has options falling out of its dual exhaust tips, it has so many options.

That Scottsdale AZ teacher checked off every option, every option on the list (except wheels)! Finally, the time had come. For that bad boy was ready! Ready for her tender caress! Ready for the feel of that vibrating Hemi! Ready to set the world on fire, with its power and magnitude!

You sound like an Advertising copy writer. lol. Good!

This was not uncommon as a trip to the Wheel store was the first thing done to these cars.... MOST muscle cars did not keep there " stock " wheels... There was no reason to spend money on a " throw away " item

To me if 71 Hemi Cuda convt's are worth in the millions and they're pretty much all fluff and makeup which didn't win any major racing titles a 4 speed, Hemi Daytona is worth in the millions all day long. Hemi E-body coupes won Pro Stock and Hemi Wing cars won NASCAR, to me that's where the historic value is.

I owned a 71 GTX, 426 hemi, 4 speed car, for 28 years that was factory Ordered, by the original owner, back in the day.
When i owned that car, i never talked with the original owner, but his son in law, back in the dinosaur days.
He told me when the order was placed at the dealership, he already has a set of 4 aftermarket wheels in the garage waiting to go on that car, when it was delivered to the dealership.
That's why the car came through with regular steel wheels, and dog dish hub caps on it.
Why spend extra money for Road wheels, or whatever was available as a option, when the steel wheels were going to come off the car, as soon as it was delivered.
Maybe something like that with the Daytona that is being discussed here, in this thread.

You like it with dog dish hub caps on it, or when i had it with Rallye Wheels?
But don't know what aftermarket wheels the original owner installed on the car.

1969 Hemis got either dog dishes of full 15" wheel covers. I don't know if the 15"Kelsey Hays recall wheels were available during the Daytona production run.
