There were many movies and tv shows filmed in South Florida, but the earliest show I can remember was “Flipper”, filmed mostly in and around the Seaquarium in Miami. My friend’s father worked on a big plumbing job next to the place one summer and my friend and I rode with him to work many times. Sometimes we would go into the seaquarium, one of us would go buy a ticket and go in and then meet at the far end of a fence and pass the ticket to the other. About half of the times we went, we took our fishing equipment with us and we fished nearby.
One day, while we were fishing, an otter came up to us looking for a handout. My friend went to the seaquarium while I kept the otter busy. My friend then returned with one of the animal handlers on the set and he captured the otter. It turned out that the otter was part of the Flipper show and as a “reward” they gave us, you guessed it, two tickets to the Seaquarium.
