Hawkrod 'RoadKill' Cross Country Trip 2022

Tyson, by chance?
I believe it was... They were promoting there NOT frozen chicken ( I was living in Oregon) that were about double in price.....
Great ads... I remember flying into Fayetteville a few times and what seemed like thousands of chicken hatcheries everywhere....

Did Ya hear any banjos in Ar.?????
 IIRC that was in Georgia or Alabama somewhere :luvplace:

We took a short sunset hike last night and then we relaxed by the campfire for a bit.

In the morning, we took a nice hike in the Ozarks in Arkansas - some really pretty scenery!

Tonight we are in Lake Eufaula State park in OK.

We have found the rear spoiler works great as a drying rack!

Most importantly: no mechanical issues and the A/C worked all day through the 90+ degree heat!

Old cars are really pretty reliable if they are cared for! My 72 charger is so reliable and I’ve never had a complaint about any of them granted I’m a firm believer in maintenance and preventive maintenance .
Simple cars they are and you drive them they don’t drive you!

By that map, you are headed into NE Oklahoma. That's called the Green Country part of OK. It's also the VERY Native American part of Oklahoma. Hopefully, you can see some real Native American culture.

Most of Oklahoma was set aside as Indian Territory, with the general borders of the Indian Territory being formed in 1834 from the Indian Intercourse Act. It was opened for general settlement around 1890. The "Sooners" were settlers who arrived before this period of official authorization. From 1890–1907 Oklahoma was known as Oklahoma Territory. Oklahoma became the 46th state to enter the union on November 16, 1907.

Yep, and when in Indian country, don’t make your campfire too big or they’ll see the smoke and raid your camp while you sleep.

They won;t steal your horses....just your car!!!! In Ok. REALLY!
Looks like he made it through unscathed, I just passed him on Hwy 9 east of Norman, OK

BTW Hawk, if you see this and are still close by, I have a 2 post lift and lots of tools if you need to do anything to your car.

The first FBBO sighting of the RoadKill Runner!!!

Yes, we were on highway 9. A super huge thank you for the offer of the lift and place to do some work!
We just stopped in Tuttle for some lunch. I assume we are now one hour or more away from you at this point. Luckily, the car is working well at the moment. Certainly it would be nice to throw it on a lift and check some things out, but likely not worth a 2 hour delay. This would also mean we would miss checking out the route 66 museum in Clinton.

If you are real close and get this before we hit the road, then maybe we will.

Either way, THANK YOU!!!

Hawk

I’m 20 minutes east of Norman, and google maps shows it’s a 53 minute drive to Tuttle. I can send you my address and you can enter it in your GPS if you want to see if it’s do-able.

Thanks for letting everyone share your road trip. Sounds like your car is doing well overall considering how little
“ shakedown time “ to feel it out before hitting the road. This is a real treat and great people along the way.

   :luvplace: :thankyou: :thankyou: :steering::steering::steering:

I think we'll keep rolling so we can catch the Route 66 museum (it's closed tomorrow).

Thank you again so much for the offer. THIS kind of stuff is what makes FBBO so great!

Today we blasted along route 9 (as discussed above). We ate lunch at a great Barbecue place in Tuttle. One of the best brisket sandwiches ever!

We made our way to Clinton, OK and checked out the Route 66 museum there. It is small, but has some nice pictures and memorabilia.

Then it was time for laundry. We checked in to a fairly run down Days Inn, but they had washers and dryers and it was cheap.

Tomorrow will be a hard driving day. We have decided we want to spend some time in the four corners region, so we have to bypass sights in Texas. We will drive some parts of Route 66 there, like Cadillac ranch, but mostly it will be blasting West.

Hope the A/C keeps working (and everything else too)!

We ate here in Amarillo. Your choice, but thought Cadillac Ranch was a waste of time.
