Hawkrod 'RoadKill' Cross Country Trip 2022

We ate here in Amarillo. Your choice, but thought Cadillac Ranch was a waste of time. View attachment 1284825
One question, one comment.

Question: Do you recommend the Big Texan to eat at?

Comment about Cadillac Ranch. Yeah, many of these attractions are hyped in pictures and boring to see, but they are an icon of Route 66, so we'll see if we can get my beater RR pictured with them.

Yes, eat at the Big Texan. The Cadillacs are off the road, a short walk, no foto op. It was windy the day we were there. Overspray in the air. A crapload of construction on 40 too, but that was 2 years ago.

I stopped on 10 and took pics of the cadillac ranch. A site to behold. To each his own and there's an *** for every seat, in my case I liked seeing it after hearing so much about it. Have fun. I'm enjoying reading about your adventures.

All sites not for everyone. Drove from Dallas to Abeliene down to San Angelo TX a few times, looking at that terrain gave me a new respect for frontier folk. DAMN, do that in covered wagons and horseback, LIVING there as folk travel west, they were TOUGH PEOPLE, men & women and families. Rt 66 in OK with the museum (yes small) during "dust bowl" era, SOB!! Another respect earned. Can people, today, do what they did back in those days? ANY WAY, travel onward and HAVE FUN "ROADKILL ROADRUNNER"!!

Cadillac Ranch is off Rt 40. Maybe a different one off of 10.

I am in the co-pilot seat. Timing wasn't right for the big Texan restaurant, but we saw it from the road.
We did stop at the ranch...

Now we are back on the road.

BTW, what is this BS about gas having only 86 octane in Texas and New Mexico?!? Now I'm forced to buy 88 octane at $4:50 a gallon. Ouch!!!

Last night we happened to hook up with a hiking friend of ours who was in the region. This wasn't planned, but was fun. We ended up staying at their place overnight.

Before we got there, we stopped at two car museums, one of them being another route 66 museum. I don't have WIFI tonight, but here is a taste:

I know this isn't a Mopar, but it would look awesome towing g my 70 Limelight Road Runner.

Today we did a hike by the Rio Gande gorge. I wasn't aware how deep of a gorge it had cut in some places.

There were also some wildlife too...

Tomorrow we are likely headed to Mesa Verde, but we still need to finalize plans.

Finally, a couple of car related items:
(1) The A/C gave up. The freon must have leaked out. It was nice while it worked, and we will have to charge it again, but it obviously has a slow leak...

(2) We have noticed the air/fuel ratio has moved from the high 14s to sometimes in the 12s. This is happening (we think) due to the altitude. We are right now at around 8000 feet.

Thanks for following along!

Look for oil/dust around all the fittings

If you happen to roll through my area if I'm home & not in Texas I'd be happy to throw a charge in for ya...

I think your thinking is correct...

Thank you! We may need to take you up on that offer depending on where we enter CA.
We a beating the heck out of the car, and we will need to do an oil change soon too. Having a friendly place to do it would be great.

Nice Pic's! Beautifull scenery. Wow, you guys are really covering some territory! Get that
air fixed!

Old skhool ac: to cool off, press the pedal on the right. Works best with wing windows and a sunroof.
