Never much cared for separate bank accounts etc in a marriage....but....

We did the separate check book thing for our first six months of marriage, then gave it up as our household budget seemed to be on autopilot, and we had no issues figuring out additional expenditures and savings, and making choices we both agreed to. During our graduate school days, first mine, later hers, we cut the expenses to the bone and figured out how much we would pull from loans and savings. When we were up and running, we worked out how much we would save (automatic deductions from payroll) every quarter. After 44 years of marriage, she told me to buy a Hemi GTX, and never blinked at the cost. These results are not typical. I appreciate what I've got, and unlike the car, she was my first.

My wife wears exactly 2 jewelry items (OK technically-3) a pair of silver or gold hoop ear rings and her 1ct wedding ring.

She used have a belly button ring but doesn't any more.

She picked out the wedding ring and we mail ordered it from CA.

Paid $3,200, and six months later it appraised at two different places for 10K.

If she can find 'em like that, she should consider flipping them.

I believe I actually have more pair of shoes (four) than she does.

I believe she has two $10 flea market purses, and they are just big enough for her wallet, phone and one or two other items.
My wife was a jeweler when we got back together in 86....but don't know if I mentioned we knew each other since 1970. Back then, Uncle Sam got me and since she wanted a way out of being at home with her mom etc, she married someone else after I left for Germany after begging me to marry her. Dang, I wasn't ready to marry anyone back then! Well, that should have been my first clue of what kind of person she was. Anyways, she quit working as a jeweler shortly after we got married and that alone made me wonder why. She didn't like the guy she was working for so....ok, why not work for somebody else then. One hurdle after another.......long story short I knew I forked up getting married to her and still wonder why I stuck with her for 31 years but don't wonder so much anymore. Heck, I wonder why she stuck with me so long either!! lol
