Drum Brakes??

I was looking at the Leeds setup that summit sells, its very complete and doesn't require a spindle change. (Something I WONT do.) I understand that Dr.Diff can put together a similar setup, and I would rather buy from him.

Had a couple members respond to my WTB post for drums/hubs. Anyone know what years will work on my 62?

I DO NOT know for sure, but..... I would be very surprised if 62-65 wouldn't interchange. Anybody out there with a hollander?
Edit: betcha Dr Diff knows. Time for a phone call?

Up date on this little project.. finally got around to replacing the front drums/ hubs. Used a set from a 63’ Dodge. This is what I found when I took the old set off. Basically the front left was as shown in previous pictures. Badly grooved, along with the shoe. The one I removed from the right side was fine along with the shoe!! Also note they are two completely different drums.. The right side is the same style as the two I just put on but that left one is completely different.

Not different. It just looks like the drum was worn so much that the inner/outside edge of the drum wore through the groove and fell off.
That is why the drum looks so much narrower on the inside...

If you have a drum diameter gage it would be interesting to hear how it measures out.

While replacing my ball joints yesterday on my 62 Fury I pulled a brake drum to check the pads. Found something that doesn’t look Right. While the pads were still thick they and the drums are pretty badly grooved indicating that whoever last changed the brakes probably didn’t turn the drums. More oddly though, these brake drums have a groove that’s probably 1/2” wide and 1/4” deep and must have been machined in. Out of the 2.5” of possible inside surface area on the drum there is about 1 5/8”on the outside, 1/2” of the groove and then maybe 3/8” on the inside. Why on earth would that groove be cut in there as it clearly results in less contact area - is it factory? To top it off the pads are 2 1/2” wide so they go over the groove? Hope these pictures help.

I don’t have a gage but with a tape there looks to be about 1/8” more ID on the left one

About 2.5 hours driving time. Been there a number of times is years past for the shows. Didn’t make the Shades of the Past this year . Heard it was the last year for it?

I will be in pigeon forge October 24th to the 28th if you think it is worth the trip. I have two front drums you could use

Thanks old guy but I got the brake problem sorted out.

Probably an earlier set of brake shoes wore down to the rivets, which gouged the drum.

Here, we only use bonded [ glued ] shoes, have done for decades...& this doesn't happen.
Who make the best brake shoes out there for stopping power
