Since I am swapping out the original 904 to a later 727 with an aftermarket shifter I won't be needing the original cable shift linkage. How difficult is it to remove the original stuff? I'm hoping to pull the trans this weekend and would just like a heads up beforehand.
Thanks.

A 62-65 FSM will show how to disconnect the transmission ends of the cables. Also, the 1965 FSM has a section in "chapter 21" will show how the column is serviced. A 65 or 66 floor shift column will get you a clean steering column. Use the later 3 pin neutral safety switch to wire up your back-up lamps (if your car is so equipped).

I used a 66 column and associated hardware to maintain the column shift for a later 727.

I'm using the original column. I going to use an aftermarket floor shifter with the new 727. I just want to remove all the cables and the column shifter.

What ever route you go save the old parts, those cables are getting hard to find. The column will need a different shift bowl or just remove the arm. Sounds like originality is not a concern.

Yeah, I'm not worried about originality. I'm sticking to the old school look like it just came off the dragstrip back in the late 60s.

Ok, cables are disconnected from the trans. Thanks.

it would be alot easier to try to get a 66 column and sell the 65 all together they are getting hard to find, i bought a used 66 column this summer paid 50.00 just replaced turn signal switch

I got the cables off of the column. Who the heck designed that setup? It was a pain in the ***.
