Hey all,

Good morning. In the search for our Super Bee I came across one contender that looks really nice however I have one area of concern. The undercarriage of the care looks pretty good, except for the pinch seam along the bottom of the rockers. I can't tell if this is rust or if it's the stuff that was used to seal the pinch seams back in the day... if there was anything used, at all. Was hoping you could give me some input. It's an Indiana car.

Thanks,
Mike

Looks like some form of rust. Take a small pick and see if it flakes out.

I can't access the picture, but the factory wouldn't put sealer in that area. It could plug up the drain holes.

Thanks Pnora. If it does turn out to be rust, do you think it's something I should be overly concerned about? The rest of the undercarriage looks to be a 8 / 8.5 out of 10 - very minimal surface rust, clean, rubber bushing seem to be new or in very good shape. The body and doors look very nice and I can't see any hint of rust bubbling on the pinch seam from the outside or inside.. just inside that groove you can see.

Thanks,
Mikey

I doubt that it is serious rust. However buyer beware. You or any one else will never know until its actually looked at.

Its rust. Dump some Gibbs in the trunk and let it run out...thatll slow it down until its addressed.

Thanks Lefty, that rust is in the pinch seam on both sides, pretty sure towards the rear. Does the trunk drain through the pinch seams?

Thanks,
Mikey

Should be just a little condensation here and there, unless the truck seal fails. Wondering tho if the quarter or other metal in that area got replaced and was left plain steel somewhere hidden??

that's pretty crusty........ I wonder what's hiding under black spray bomb

I see the driver's side shows the same.

Yea.. looks like you found the listing? The rest of the car is great.. just not suer if this is a dell killer or not.

its not normal for that area to crust up like that; probably mouse piss........ I can get a pretty good assessment of these cars by looking in the trunk

This is a longshot, but......

When I bought my Dart, I sealed all the drain holes in the rocker panels under the doors. Drilled a hole under the door trim plate & poured about 8 gallons of fish oil in there. Drove around the block a few times to slosh the oil around; chipped the sealant off a few holes to let the oil drain out. Fish oil is excellent at preventing rust. When I sold the car 16 yrs later, there was no rust in those panels.

Everything else in that picture looks really nice.
I agree it might have been a localized problem due to a water leak.

Mopars = leaks

I'd look in the trunk under the rear window.

Thanks for the replies. Geoff, didn't know that... thank you.

Eldubb, the pic of the trunk interior looks super clean so not sure if the car was sitting for a while. It's at a dealer in Indiana and I'm nor NorCal so I have to work with the sales person for more pics, etc. Although, the website has a ton of good shots.

So this green Bee is about 8k less than 2 others I've been looking at. The other 2 have the Ram Charger hood, which I love. Both are creme, and fairly recently restored, good panels, etc. I'm waiting for pics on one in SoCal so more to come on that one.

Thanks again for the input.

Mikey

Well they may have put a new trunk floor in it. (because of the leak)
