Briefly, the selector cable I ordered for the 78 400 block, 63 727 in B Body 63 Fury vert is 48". The one I removed is 44". If I use the longer one, will it operate normally? Thanks.
 
It should if you do not route it without using the OEM restraint points. No kinks or tight bends!

IT WAS NOT THE BUTTONS, OR CABLE! After 3x under adjusting new transmission selector cable, I finally had it towed to a shop. There the mechanic finally took off the pan and discovered this fractured neutral switch contact lever! i cannot find a reference in the shop manual, but...is it this lever, #140 in the diagram? If so, can it be re-installed without dropping the valve body? NObody here in PDX will work on it...

I didn't read the other thread, but that's the kickdown lever. The Hemi 5.0. Not surprised it snapped. I tried one many years ago and bent the apply strut in half. Find a 3.8 or 4.2
 
Thanks, it does not look like the "comb" that moves by the shift cable, and complete's the N circuit. But why would it jam the shift cable? I think maybe the pieces were in the pan, so maybe the piece impeded the cable? Is the 5.0 designation a size, or tension, ???? Is the 5 for the Hemi? This 727 is the original 63 for the original 318, hence the 44" cable, vs. the correct 48" for BB.
 
The comb is on top and part of the valve body.
The 5.0 is 5:1 ratio. It's a hemi thing from way back but is not used in modern times with much frequency to my knowledge. Yes get the 3.8.
From what I'm reading here( I don't know the background story) it sounds like it needs to come right out and gone through. The 5.0 is a red flag, the trans should have been built specially for it. Was it?? We don't know.
The converter has to come out to change the lever anyway
 
It would be interesting to know why a 727 SB and 727 BB don't share the same length cable.
 
It can't be installed without dropping the transmission. It is held in place by a pin that shoves in from the front of the transmission case, and is sealed up with threaded plug. To access this, the torque converter must be removed, which means that everything must come off the back of the engine. I know this is not the news you wanted to hear.
 
You're showing a 904 lever. I'm not sure if they are the same
