Is this cam too small for a 383/489 stroker?

Thanks, that was the original plan and still a good option!

Is this cam too small for a 383/489 stroker?

For me it's a matter of practicality. I have a 2 1/2 car garage at my 'retirement' home that's half the size of the 5 bedroom house we had 6 years ago with full basement. Right now it's the Roadrunner and a golf cart inside and it's going to be hard enough getting it cleaned out enough to...

Is this cam too small for a 383/489 stroker?

Since I'm valuing the original engine & drivetrain as much as I am, I think I need to stick with a moderate 432 build. Last thing I'd want to do is punch a hole in the side of the block. 450-500 HP, 500ish Torque should be fine. Thanks everyone for helping me decide. Now I just need to find...

Is this cam too small for a 383/489 stroker?

On 500ish Strokers, does anyone hear use any block stiffeners, girdles, cross bolted caps, etc.? Thx

Is this cam too small for a 383/489 stroker?

Thanks, I've looked at Molner but would have to go with custom pistons and piece the 'Stroker Kit' together myself. Not impossible, just haven't done it before. Thx

Is this cam too small for a 383/489 stroker?

I was originally planning a 383/451 build but no one offers a 3.9" stroker anymore. So it's either 432 or 489 for those of us with 383's. Thx

Is this cam too small for a 383/489 stroker?

Part of me wants to keep it more "stock" since the drivetrain is all original and the motor still has the original heads and I've got the original intake and period DP4B to use. Once I start going away from that I kind of think just go for it. Thx

Is this cam too small for a 383/489 stroker?

Thanks for the feedback, mind me asking what stall your converter is and rear gear ratio? Thx

Is this cam too small for a 383/489 stroker?

I already have this cam for a 383/432 build. I'm now considering a 383/489 build for 1) a stock 'looking' build with 906 heads, exhaust manifolds and DP4B intake or 2) CNC'd Stealth heads, headers, and probably a six pack setup. I'd like some decent lope but nothing too radical. Will this cam...

Let's diagnose the ticking sound in the 383.

No, everything I read said that Hooker Comp Headers had a tendency to leak due to warped / uneven flanges. I got it mostly fixed with the last gaskets I used and just put up with a less noticeable ticking. The Hedman headers I had before the hookers wouldn't clear the mini starter which is why...

Let's diagnose the ticking sound in the 383.

My Hooker headers have leaked since I bought them, tried every type gasket there is and still leak. Have new set of Doug's Headers for the rebuild.

Anyone run the 8" (shorter) Gear Vendor setup?

Talk to Gear Vendors. I asked the exact same question and they absolutely recommended the longer version. It's been a while but I believe they said it actually went in easier with no clearancing required other than a quarter sized 'dent' in one spot of the floor bottom. Again, if I remember...

    cam shaft???...

I'm going with a Lunati roller in my 383, can I go ahead and buy a cam button that will work or do I have to wait and measure something? If I can go ahead, can you tell me what's the best cam button for my application is? Thanks, Jim

Help Me Complete My 383 Engine Build

I really wanted to go with a 3.9" stroker and Muscle Motors sold a 383 kit for it. Unfortunately, they are no more. 440Source lists the crank but won't sell a kit due to lack of pistons they say. I thought they had their pistons made for them so why can't they just order 3.9" crank compatible...

Help Me Complete My 383 Engine Build

I'm glad you like questions! How about the 4.10 gears. Are they too much for a bigger (almost 500ci stroker) motor even with the O/D? Should I go with a 3.91 or even 3.54 instead? And like you I want the car to sound badass like it did back in the day. Is this enough cam with the rest of my...

Help Me Complete My 383 Engine Build

Comes down to different strokes for different folks, at least that's how I see it. I'm not choosing a cam for how it sounds exactly, but would like the lope to be similar to what the car had back in high school since replicating that vibe and look is exactly what I'm going for, and yes that...

Help Me Complete My 383 Engine Build

Thanks for sharing your extensive experience. I'll probably go with the 432 given it fits what I already have, but you make the 489 sound pretty darn good too and if I'd only have to buy a new cam to get there still might be the way to go. OK, I'll ask you one more question then leave you...

Help Me Complete My 383 Engine Build

That is good advice, I'd like a decent lope and I bought the cam when I was leaning towards a 432. If I went with the 489 would I need a more radical cam to get the lope I want? How far above this cam would it take? Thanks, Jim

Help Me Complete My 383 Engine Build

I thought about doing just that but have to think the original motor is unlikely to still be around when somebody wants to swap it back in, best to stay in the car if possible.
