    main cap stud girdle

ok. but pan studs are not the only items, and standard pan studs dont work, they need to be longer because of the thickness of the girdle. There are mainstuds that are specific length (standard studs don’t work). There are shim washers, nut washers. There are maincap nuts, girdle nuts…...

    main cap stud girdle

Curious…. Why would you want the girdle without any of the necessary fastener hardware? it’s pretty much useless without the proper fasteners.

    Line lock- on rear brakes?

I believe that’s “Crew Chief Pro” software. Doug will verify.

    LemonWedge 470 build thread

440 Source has 270’s in stock. Have had for a long while. If you’re currently waiting on a set from someone else, you’re missing the boat. They stock the “hydraulic roller” version, but the only difference in any of them is the springs. I knew I was going to use springs spec’d by Howard’s...

    New wheels are on

Great choice, Doug! The polished finish (single color) actually calms the appearance of the car slightly. I like it!

    Line lock- on rear brakes?

mines exactly the same. There’s no missing the difference in feel when you let go of the lock. I’ve had one solonoid go out a few years back. It didn’t stick it closed, it just started blowing a fuse when you activated it, telling me the solonoid was shot. Raced the rest of that day with no...

    Line lock- on rear brakes?

It works great. It’s the way mine has been plumbed for over a decade. before you laugh, explain to me why you WOULDN'T want control over the front brakes while doing your burnout. Since a line lock is actually a one-way valve, You simply have to plumb it backwards in the line to make it work...

Cam is finally on its way, as I now have package tracking info from Summit. And with a little surprise…. When I paid for the upgraded core, I then got a call from Howards a few days later. They were calling to verify specs one last time before production, since it was now a “custom order”...

    Roller Cam Extinction?

I have been in contact with Howards regularly the past couple of months, as I am waiting on a solid roller I ordered in July. As I’m told directly from them, the issue is core material availability. I was told that thus far Howards has resisted the option of sourcing core material from...

with those spring pressures, That’s a pretty strong testament, Doug. I assume you’ve had that cam for a number of years. It would be interesting to know what the industry standard is in core material. I had never seen a cam simply break in two before I saw those pictures.

I cannot confirm that they were billet cores. But he showed me pictures of (2) recent roller cam failures @ engines he built. Both just plain broken. Both recent builds that would have been considered “fresh“ motors. Both Comp Cams solid roller products. He felt that with todays supply chain...

    LemonWedge 470 build thread

Update: Now I feel a little bad about the above post. Serves me right I guess; I should have made todays phone calls before posting anything. So I talked with my machinist and he concurred that he is aware of varying levels of billet steel that cam manufacturers typically choose between...

    LemonWedge 470 build thread

the problem with going elsewhere at this point is I already have the springs and lifters for this cam. If I were go to a Comp Cam, I’d want to run comp lifters and springs specific to that cam. I know I could return stuff…. but that’s a hassle also. Not really looking to trade one headache for...

    LemonWedge 470 build thread

I’m now finding myself very confused and leary of this situation. I went and scoured their website. I see nothing offering higher end camshaft materials to ”endure high levels of abuse”. I’ve never heard of such a thing. I’m already buying a billet steel core camshaft. Perhaps you guys...

That couldn’t be it, since my cam is a “billet core solid roller”. I asked Luke with Howards what exactly it is via email. Haven’t received an answer just yet.

you are reading my mind. Don’t want to jump hoops I don’t have to just yet since the short block isn’t even here, but I will be having this very discussion with Howards as soon as they are the last item holding me up. the only thing I can think a “higher end core” would be, since we’re talking...
