I'm thinking of changing to LED headlights...

So if I understand you (and NHTSA), if your car came off the assembly line with sealed-beam headlamps, it must always and forever have a one-piece headlamp. It can never have a lens/reflector assembly with a removable bulb like most modern US-market cars since ~1986 and most Euro-spec cars...

I'm thinking of changing to LED headlights...

Seriously, can't someone make LED headlights that: Euro-spec and/or DOT rated as required by the customer Fit the existing buckets without modification (Identical form factor to incandescent/halogen sealed beam) Work with existing wiring with anything from a significant decrease to a minimal...

"You need to do the whole front end."

Thanks for that tip! I hope I can see the list and check that against what I already have lying around. I changed out the ball joints and half-shafts on a 1991 Nissan Sentra a few years back, I have a few air tools...

"You need to do the whole front end."

I'm running on stock steel wheels, stock suspension height. Front end seems ok (I've driven everything from a 1955 VW Bug to a 1986 40' Blue Bird bus, a 1980 Ramcharger, and beyond.) The rubber everywhere in the front end looks old and cracked, and there's clunks in the front in parking lots...

Filling the gap in radio options?

I'm 100% with you on that. I would have bought one of those 4 x 10 plates that have two 3" cones and a tweeter instead, but the price ($15) on the pair of Cerwin-Vega 4 x 10s was too low to pass up. I'm saving my pennies to rebuild the front end, replace the factory A/C (the compressor threw a...

Rear window electric defroster, anyone seen it?

Grew up riding in a 1977 Buick Skylark with the windshield antenna. Never had a problem with it until a crack in the windshield. Also had a 2006 Scion xB with the antenna built into the rear side glass. Worked great.

Filling the gap in radio options?

The dash speaker is a 4 x 10. I have seen at least one 'radio delete' car that actually had a speaker installed there at the factory! I think the rear speaker option was only a 6 x 9, and the 5 x 8 hole was for the rear defroster? Of course, the paper cones turn to dust after a couple decades...

Filling the gap in radio options?

I was planning to magnet or velcro-mount under the middle of the dash. All the switches you see (except the power switch on the bottom) are momentary. Just soldered to where the push buttons were on the original circuit board.

Filling the gap in radio options?

OK. Be nice, everybody. Here it is , I still have to put a 4-pin microphone connector on the side for power and speaker, and a Line In plug, too. On the back, you can see the Motorola antenna plug. It has an FM tuner function, too. The circuit board came out of a smashed Blackmore BRS-1104...

Filling the gap in radio options?

That amazon thing is great, but doesn't fulfill #3 and #7 on my second list.

Filling the gap in radio options?

That's more than I've got into it, besides a few hours of labor (mostly looking around for a solder sucker, flux, and copper braid that I had SOMEWHERE).

Filling the gap in radio options?

Why would I want to snap a picture of my homebrew setup and expose myself to ridicule for how the switches aren't centered, the labeling isn't nice and neat, etc. etc.

Filling the gap in radio options?

but no FM radio. Even if the drive-in movies have a streaming option, there's usually a lag... Even if you're not at a movie so a few seconds of delay doesn't matter, you're still dependent on mobile data, which may not be reliable for some people. The backup battery feature is also a huge...

"You need to do the whole front end."

yeah this was just wheel movement, I used the term caster to indicate forward/backward instead of camber/toe-in.

Filling the gap in radio options?

So here's what's available to do for tunes in your classic ride these days: 1. Have your original radio rebuilt, starting around $300 2. Buy a Retrosound unit, starting around $400 (and they sound about as good as the original) 3. Hack up your dash 4. Tuck a modern single-din unit under the...

"You need to do the whole front end."

1970 Satellite 4 door 318/2bbl/904. Factory Air and P/S. Manual drums. Stock all around, in/out. I took it in to a local mechanic that has a reputation of being a wizard at adjusting carbueretors, since mine just wasn't dialed in very well. I asked him to have a look at the front brake...

    Weird Ignition Problem

I did the "MAD Mod" with #6 wire from the alternator to the starter relay, and from there to the battery. Put an extra fusible link in each #10 lead going in to the firewall bulkhead connector, and disconnected the alternator gauge altogether. I will eventually have the gauge converted into a...
