I opened up the ports on my original exhaust manifolds to the same size as the exhaust ports on the heads for a smooth transition.
My M1 dual plane (stealth) intake manifold also looks original.
Did you try the propane in between the intake manifold and the cylinder head right where the intake ports are located?
Maybe there is some extra paint there.
Now that you have put in half a turn clockwise you should test it at highway speed, when you go full throttle the air valve will start opening and you can feel how it's working.
