That pump as advertised puts out 7.5 lbs of pressure.
Edelbrock recommends a max pressure of 6.5lbs.
Your pump could be putting out a little more than advertised.
You need to check your fuel pressure.
If over 6.5 lbs you should reduce it with a regulator.
You could be pushing fuel past the...
1406 / 600 edelbrock preformer is a very good carb.
This would be a good pick for a 383.
You will want to feed the positive side of the choke with switched 12 volts.
( not off the coil )
Nothing against Holley they build good carbs also.
But for my $$ and set it and forget it I would get the...
You have some good advice . As far as your edelbrock carb 5 turns out on the air/ fuel screws is going to be pretty rich at idle.
Without a vacuum gauge a good all around starting point is 2 turns out from seated.
When screwing them both down into the seat once they hit bottom don't over...
Bob, sometimes I feel my IQ goes up a few points just reading your posts.
I do thank you for pointing that out capt.
The swap meet $20.00 carb was just funny to me. Sometimes you do get what you pay for....
Guy bought this at a swap meet for $20.00
He had it for a few months , wanted me to put a kit in.
Before I opened it up I told him it prob wasn't going to be good.
Lol.
I called him, he stopped, I now have a free parts carb
I run 87 non ethanol but I have a low compression RV 440 bottom.
I would not have ethanol in the tank and carb if the car is going to be stored for winter ect.
If your useing it and running the fuel through I don't see a problem.
That stuff draws moisture so don't store a car with it in the tank.
Can you buy 87 non ethanol ? If it is a fuel octane prob and 87 is available you may be able to blend in some AV gas or a booster to get back to 91 or close enough you can tune your way out, back off timing ect.
Like posted ^^^ if it has set for a couple years you may want to pop the top on that...
Like posted above, use 2 springs but get some the correct length and a little smaller gauge.
Looking at the pics, check your throttle cable at the manifold end. That cable housing may be mashed under the retain clamp causing part of the problem.
Yes, very nice 71 !
About the fuel.. non alcohol is better. It is less harmful on the fuel system soft parts on these cars.
It does not draw moisture, it does not boil as soon as the mix fuel.
But , you need enough octane to prevent detonation. If you have a non alcohol premium available...
Not sure if your dealing with a aftermarket sender but if you are.
MeterMatch Fuel Gauge Interface Module
These guys sell a meter match that may help sinc.your sender and gauge.
May be coming up and out of the vent tubes . Then dropping in the intake.
Just for a test add a short piece of fuel hose on the vents.
Some of the circle track guys have to.
