great question. i did contact Comp Cam and provided the serial number of the cam. Comp said, it does have the fuel pump lobe on it. i thought that might be the problem also.. bummer no. thx

FYI.. at lunch I looked at the fuel filter.. ha, it was almost full!! of course, the engine is cold. Narrowing the issue down... as Purplebeeper stated, definitely vapor lock at the carburetor. question - will an electric fuel pump solve my problem?

Gas is 91 Octane, 100% gas. no ethanol and is about 1 month old. Now, could the tank from the station been contaminated with ethanol blend.. could be... I wish there was an additive to combat ethanol. I put my hand on the pump, block and hoses up to the carb, all way less than 150 degrees...

thanks.. venting is a problem because i do have Pressure.. have to hold the cap down when i open it. It is a vented cap, but i might drill an 1/8" hole in the top.

there is "pressure" when i release the cap after driving and it quits. It does not sound or feel like a vacuum (air going in). i will try starting the car with he cap loose and see what happens. i will have to wait for the snow to melt (few days) before i can drive it again.

i did pull it out. the filter was off but it was not plugged. thanks for the idea for checking. i did look at my gas cap, it is a NON vent. I am going to drill a couple of 1/8" holes in it to "make it" a vented cap. I cannot find one around here for a '67 coronet

thank you for the thread.. i have not ruled out the external pump. i am just a little hard headed (err wife says so, so must be) and will try the mechanical one more time. If any problems, i will install an electrical pump and be done. I hope!

the cam end is smooth, no dishing, the pump end has a little coloration (dark) but no visual dishing. Cam is brand new and i called Comp to make sure it was built with the fuel push rod lobe. I am waiting for a Hughes fuel pushrod to arrive (Thursday). thx

i did measure the fuel pump push rod. measures 3.160" .. so 0.06" short of the 3.220". Does this make a major difference for the pump stroke? thx
