What’s stamped on the block only referenced what it had when new. Back in the 80’s, I witnessed the tear down of a matching # block in a ‘71 V code ‘Cuda. It had a cast crank and the 8.5 to 1 pistons in it. It ran great, but the guy said it didn’t seem to make much power. 8^]
It was a GM thing that started in the late 70’s by Corvette guys. GM did not indicate the engine the car came with in the VIN until 1972. So a matching number on the engine block to the sequence # in the VIN verified if the car came with the L78 396, or the L79 327. Mopar has that info right in...
Does his business still exist? I do remember the guy saying the best thing that could happen for 60’s-70’s Mopar muscle cars is to crush all the 318 and other similar cars that could be cloned. Probably, no is… the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard a car guy say.
