I don't know about the 2bbls but with the edelbrock carbs they used a blue seal and ethanol gas would eat them up. There's a red/orange one that is ethanol resistant and works great.
When I lived in Maryland my older vehicles wouldn't pass and I would open up the air mixture screw a half a turn. Always seemed to do it when I took it back.
It can take a couple days. Like I stated about using a soft brush, I pull it out now and then and scrub it, put it back in. Maybe even spray it with aerosol carb cleaner like 2+2 in-between soaking. All depends on how dirty it is. I don't think I'd use what you posted in your first post.
I always used this. Sits on the shelf for years and each time I need it, it still works. A soft, small paint brush helps speed things up.

This is what Mike from Then and Now found in my M6903 Carter pump. You can see the oblong holes from the improper way the factory installed it. The spring was too heavy also.
Mechanical Fuel Pump 101
Buy the rebuild kit from Then and Now so you're assured to get a spring that's not too heavy, causing too much pressure. Give him a call so he can talk you through it. Or better yet, put it in a box and send it to him to rebuild. His turn around time is pretty good. He's a member here.

Lew I didn't know you had that setup on your '65.
I see you have it set up as a progressive throttle. I set mine up that way and the front four cylinders were running way too lean. Using a IR gun they were 200 degs hotter than the rear four cylinders. I tried to research how the factory jetted...
If it has the blue accelerator pump the 10% will eat it. Bad accelerator pump can cause several symptoms. Get the orange vitron one that's ethanol resistant.
I run 10% during the summer months, non ethanol for winter storage. With each tank of 10% I'll add a few ounces of Stabil 360. It's...
The 12-440-11 Eldebrock and Holley is the same pump as the M6903 Carter just chrome plated. Eldebrock supposedly ordered them from Carter with the pressure in mind for the Eldebrock carburetors to be less than the M6903. One way to tell how strong the spring might be is to check your fuel...
I'm thinking you are talking about the voltage regulator not a ignition module.
You're talking about it running rich. Poor spark or timing way off can cause this and would stall out when you place it in gear. The engine can idle and rev up under these conditions when not in gear and give the...
