440 headers do not sit flush

Did you get them to fit? Had to bevel the flange on my Doug's. I'm using the 452 heads also.

Headers—looking for fit & ease of installation

These are a bit cheaper. It's what I went with being on a budget. The fit was great, no hammer needed. Doug's Headers D452-B Doug's Headers | Summit Racing

    Exhaust pipe clearance.

The rear hangers at the mufflers will pretty much dictate the rear section and the header or down pipes will have the front.

exhaust stud removal when installing headers?

Another note when using Doug's headers on 452 heads is that these heads have a ridge that won't let the header flange sit flat. I don't know if other heads have this or not. Had to grind a bevel on the flange for it to fit flat.

exhaust stud removal when installing headers?

You won't on a set of Doug's. Second bolt back requires having the header totally loose to get it started then you can get the rest of them.

exhaust stud removal when installing headers?

The liquid Teflon works good. I've used Permatex #2 sealant also without any problems. Sealant on all of the studs or bolts. There is a high temp sealer, Permatex 27038 Optimum Red High Temperature Gasket Maker

exhaust stud removal when installing headers?

I like to use a stud at each end of the head. Makes it easier to handle the header when installing. You can also slot the gasket at both ends then drop it into place when the header is hanging on the studs. Always use sealer on every stud and bolt. Some of the bolts on a Doug's header go under...

    Stuck #2 header bolt

Don't know if anti-seize will seal the bolt good enough to stop coolant from seeping. I like Permatex #2 on the bolt threads. Nice job on the bolt removal. I was wondering if you had a welder. That's the way to do it:thumbsup:

    Dougs headers?

You'll need the 451 headers for the 383. 1-3/4" primaries. The 452 is for the RB 413, 426, 440. They're a tad taller. I bought the Dougs with the black paint and they still look good. Nice fitment, no hammering dents for clearance. Quality product. When using them or any header on 452 heads...
