Who Likes Ships? We Have Aircraft and Trains.

USS Berkeley (DDG 15) was an Adams Class Destroyer. My brother and I were stationed on her during the 1965-66 Viet Nam campaign where we provided shore bombardment in the Golf of Tonkin for our troops fighting in the jungles of North Viet Nam. We returned to California in 66 and my brother got...

Do you leave your car unattended at shows and cruise-ins?

Hopefully they were caught and dealt with.

Do you leave your car unattended at shows and cruise-ins?

I have been to a ton of car shows over the past 30+ years and leave my car unattended at all of them. The only time I ever had an issue was at the Mopar Nationals back in the 90's when someone decided they needed my club affiliated antenna flag more than I did. Then a few year ago, I came back...

Do I need to change expansion valve?

I believe the one you are asking about is the temperature probe. It just slides into a well that is built into the tubing. The well is isolated from the system.

Do I need to change expansion valve?

When I built my 68 Charger back in 2015 with a 6.1 Hemi, it had a factory A/C that didn't work. I had the evaporator pressure tested when I had everything apart and rebuilt the heater box. I bought a new condenser, expansion valve, dryer (all stock R12 68 Charger parts) and all new hoses O rings...

Front drum to disc conversion on a 69 Charger

You have rear discs. Big difference. You would not need the proportioning valve. Only with rear drums.

Do I need to change expansion valve?

I would. With the cost of refrigeration work these days you don't want to be doing things more than once.

Front drum to disc conversion on a 69 Charger

I got mine from Pirate Jack. The booster has a larger rubber boot that goes through the firewall so you will have to enlarge the hole just a tad with a dremel or a file. Other than that, it will bolt right in.

Do I need to change expansion valve?

New expansion valves are available that are an exact replacement. Most refrigerant people will tell you to replace it along with the dryer. The orifice in them is very small and they can easily get plugged up. For the $35.00 on Ebay it would be a no brainer for me.

Front drum to disc conversion on a 69 Charger

I hate the red X so I have to explain why i disagree with this statement. The drum brake booster on a 69 Charger will not give enough boost to run those front discs. I went down that same road also before I found out that a single diaphragm booster will give you somewhere around 400 psi boost...

    Rust removal by using molasses

I was wondering about the Molasses bath in an engine cooling system to clean out the rusty gunk. Anyone ever tried something like a 7-1 ratio in a radiator and maybe run it for a few hours and then flush it out? Seems like it would work ok but I don't want to be the first to try it.

    Pirate jack disc brake conversion

To answer your question on the proportioning valve, If your car had four wheel drum and you upgrade to front discs, Yes, you need to replace the distribution block with the proportioning valve since it regulates the pressure you send to the rear brakes. The distribution block does not. It is...

Overheats on the freeway but not when cruising around town?

I had two of the 78 D150 SE trucks with the 440. One was shipped to CA and had all the smog junk on it where mine did not. Both had the 4 groove crank pulley and the idler. They also got a 28" radiator that was upgraded for 78. I just checked my parts book. It shows both 400 & 440 A, D & W...

Overheats on the freeway but not when cruising around town?

That setup is what Dodge put on my truck in 1978. I ordered it in November of 77 because I knew the 440 was going away. Pretty sure the RV's got it also. There were only 74 D150 trucks built in 78 that got the 440. Probably why you never saw one.

Overheats on the freeway but not when cruising around town?

Yes. A/C compressor up top. They also used an idler pulley lower right to add another belt to run the water pump on the truck 440.

    440 Water Pump Housing

I did have occasion to deal with a few of those later 440's. I ordered a new truck in late 77 because I knew the 440 was going away and that 78 was the last year for them. I put a little over 500K miles on that truck so I had a couple engines in reserve in case I needed them. When I built my...

    Cruise control for carbureted engine

The 76 Charger and 78 Dodge truck I had both had Carburetors and Cruise. Both worked flawlessly using vacuum operation. Touching the brake kicked it off and the resume button turned it back on and it went back to the set speed smooth and easy. No different than the new cars.
