I'm not sure I get your point. Every engine needs a damper of some sort. The only drawback to putting them on every engine is their expense - due to the manufacturing process. Also, a "fluiddamper" can only be used on internally balanced motors.
That lip's pretty rough, I'm hoping to find one that's not too bad. The big problem is that when they rot they rot on the inside where you can't see it and even if you weld on a new inner, the rust between the two layers is still there doing its thing. I'll take a look at it it in Carlisle but...

There's nothing wrong with the new m/c. BUT you need the adapter plate made by AR Engineering and available from numerous sources including Mancini.
