Take a photo of the nut IN the wheel from both sides.
The length of the shank should be slightly shorter than the width of the wheel flange.
You need shank style lug nuts.

Looks like that axle housing is cut too short to do anything with.
Maybe the issue is related to this thread.
That seems like your thrust bearings are damaged.
