A good ole-fashioned gauge pulling seems to be in the near future. I think the entire thing will need to be refurbished.
The clock doesn't work, speedometer bounces around, fuel level is incorrect, water temp is dead, and oil pressure is intermittent.
I had to keep the old coil wire, as the new wire is too short to reach. Otherwise, it's all put back together. Only 3 of the 4 wires on the driver's side had 90-degree boots, but it was easy enough to figure out.
Today was our first street run. Aside from the secondaries binding up slightly at hard throttle (why this carb was sitting on my shelf), it seems like all is well. The car is starts great, is running great, and has no leaks.
Temps today will be around 95 degrees, so I'm sure we'll get to test...
I guess the oil pressure gauge decided to work again. No reason - it worked, then it didn't work, and now it works again...
Tomorrow will be a different story, I'm sure.
This is our first time out on a street run, but also the first time we've had a full tank of fuel. The gauge isn't reading...
New fuel line arrived a few days ago. I'm liking this setup a lot better.
Note that the new fuel line no longer comes into contact with either the coil or the intake manifold. This should bring the fuel temperature down a good bit.
I lost my provision for a fuel pressure gauge in this swap...
I'm happy to report that, with the exception of the water temp gauge, everything seems to be sorted out for the moment. We're actually running pretty well.
That being said, I did want to revisit one item. The fuel line connecting to the secondaries runs between the intake and the coil. Between...
I'm going to fill it to the brim and see what it reads. I don't believe these gauges are linear, so maybe it's off on the low side, but accurate otherwise.
5 gallons of gas didn't move the needle much, but at least the gauge is reading.
Now, if this car has a 25-gallon tank, it may be accurate. Otherwise, I just need to get gas once it starts getting close to "E".
Yeah, there's nothing. Gauge is pegged well below "0" and doesn't show any signs of movement.
I think I'm going to have to test the entire circuit from sender to gauge, for both the water and fuel.
I'm almost willing to bet I'm going to need two new gauges.
I'm going to guess it's the one directly above the voltage limiter. The other two are in place for sure.
Doesn't matter at the moment, as the bulb is dead also. I'll have to add this to my list of to-dos.
Looks like the oil pressure gauge is back working. Not sure about the fuel, since I don't know how much gas was in the car.
Water temp isn't working yet, however. I guess even one out of three working aint bad at this point...
I also found a light bulb. Not sure where this goes, but...
I received the new Voltage Limiter a few days ago. it's hard to tell, but the original had definitely seen better days.
Old...
And New....
The new one also has a flashing red led to let me know it's working.
I don't know how many wires I disconnected trying to get this installed by touch...
I probably should leave that comment alone and not respond.
Truth be told, the Mrs. is very supportive; but she's a Cheby girl. She just hasn't seen the light yet. She doesn't like Waylon either. Yet.
