I too have read that the anti-knock compounds that make up "octane" do factor in with energy density, in other words, 87 octane has more energy density than 91. It may not mean much overall, I've never looked that deep into it.

Exactly! I also have an MG Midget with silicone fluid and it required a repaint due to an engine bay fire. Seemed like no amount of sanding and cleaning would get rid of all the fisheyes (fortunately, in the engine bay only). Still, my belief is that silicone is less of a problem than DOT 3 or 4.
I guess I've been lucky. I'm able to run 88 clear gas through my 440, aluminum headed engine with a decent sized cam and about 10.25:1 cr. Quench is around .044"
I ordered a 62 Plymouth instrument cluster pad several years ago from them. It lasted all of 2 days in AZ before it fell apart. Took 2 months to get my money back from them. Haven't and won't order from them ever again.
