I typically do the same but I have concluded That the voltage regulator is the most likely culprit so thought I’d try the electronic version. I hope it works. I hate wiring problems !

Thanks Threewood, I just ordered one. Do you separately ground the housing? I’ve always done that on my mechanical voltage regulators just to be sure.
