My dad did a stitching repair on a block of a WD-9 international tractor probably 50 years ago…. Never did fail after that. Way before any of these techniques. I know he hand threaded each hole. I was like maybe 10 years old…
As an auto tech and service manager back in the day (in the 90,s & 2000,s) general rule was tires were good for 10 years under normal driving conditions. Sitting in one spot for many years won’t be considered normal. Not sure if the same would apply today though as with everything there is built...
Bleed the brakes tho old school method… start at the furthest distance from MC, which would be RR, LR, RF, than LF. If you don’t there is a possibility you could recycle fluid/air from one steel line section to another. All this after you bleed MC on bench. You don’t need all that hose, just...
Matching numbers. Has msd fuel injection, headers and painless harness upgrade. Paint not original colour, was avocado gold. Had resto done in 2012 and the owner passed away then. Sat in covered car trailer till last fall when I bought her. I’m the 3rd owner. Pulls like an ox. Fun to drive, I...
I just quickly read this series of posts…I dident see any mention of magna fluxing the components. Find a reputable machine shop. If there is a crack you will know immediately if not sooner. It is definitely antifreeze that is burning. Did you smell the exh, you will know the smell of burning...
Thanks Terrywalker for info. I spoke to a guy at a performance shop and he said they all fit like a piece of crap, even Chevy repro parts. 99% of repro parts come from offshore and it shows.
Tons of great advice in these posts. I can’t say enough about setting your own pace and sticking to it, breaks included. Find like minded people to give you inspiration and support (even if they are building chevys). Always follow your heart, not your pocket book because you will never come out...
I recently bought a set of used/never installed wheel well opening trim. These were in the original OER packaging from Classic Industries. Part #MN1485, supposed to be for 73 and 74. When eyeballing them up to the car the rears look like they will fit ok, but the fronts look like they will need...
The way I see it is Bob is envious/jealous/and completely disrespectful. IMO he should be banished from this group.
GROW UP BOB, are you 16 years old???
The moderators have spoken.
I learned this technique as an apprentice years ago from an old Australian master tech. He was brilliantly smart and savvy. Have done this a few times but much quicker on a press. If it works why not…
My 74 Charger coincidentally just started acting up recently. It will crank and crank over and not fire until I release the key, then it will sometimes start and keep running…it doesn’t do this constantly at this point but is getting worse. This car is mostly original with regards to ignition...
Welcome to the group and sorry about your dad…it is nice to hear your continuing with the project. Considering it’s a numbers matching car I think it’s best to keep it original and easy on the road excessive HP so you don’t have a catastrophic failure of the matching engine. I have a 400 in mine...
I think I will call AMD this week and see what they say. I also say BS as there are still many many 3rd gen chargers out there. Maybe if they get enough requests they will start producing them…or not.
Is anyone making reproduction steel front fender for 74 Charger yet? I have been looking at a few companies but haven’t seen anything. Please let me know, Tim.
Yes, install the shroud. Without it the air just swirls around the fan blades and nothing is drawn through the rad. These systems were engineered to work, and they did unless there was a maintenance issue such as restrictions to coolant flow. It also looks so much better the way they were designed.
I recently bought a Quickjack 7000TL lift. I have not set it up yet as still too cold. Reviews were ok for it. Has anyone ever used one? It’s rated at 7000LBS, and lifts 24 inches.
Great…that’s what I thought:BangHead:. You know if someone starts or goes through a resto, why wouldn’t you do it like it is supposed to be!!! Obviously they spent time and money doing this. Fortunately the rest of the car is fairly accurate. Thanks, appreciate it.
I have a 74 Charger SE, and I’m wondering what was correct regarding the trunk being painted body color??? The car is a bit of a survivor and there was no original avocado gold in the trunk area, just flat black. I see some survivor pictures where the trunk area is body color and some that are...
It can be very very difficult to locate in this area as you can see. Back in the day when I was a dealer tech if I had a situation like this I would wash area and dry real well. Add black light dye to the transmission oil (you don’t need much), run till you start to see the leak, or to when you...
