    clutch help needed!

Okay so I am getting all of the parts together to do this clutch swap on my 63 Polara (1969 440 w/ an A833 date coded June 21, 1969 23-spline) and I am having some trouble with the clutch release bearing selection. I put the car on the lift at work and got some numbers off of the bearing that is...

Coolant Recovery Tank for a 62-5. Whatcha Using?

I bought one of these for my 66 Chrysler and after it got wrecked I swapped it over onto the Polara. Works great, looks cool, and it has a drain petcock at the bottom to make coolant flushes/exchanges easier. The old pull top Pabst can is definitely cool! Seen those a few times, also seen a...

    quick overheat

get yourself a coolant pressure tester. Pump about 15 pounds of pressure into the system and watch the gauge to see if it drops. Leave it on there for a good 4 or 5 minutes and see how far it drops. Crank up the engine with the system pressurized and see what happens. Also, and I know this...

Right Stuff vs Fine Lines vs Inline Tube?

I bought a set of pre-bent tranny lines for my 66 Newport from inline tube...the fit was absolutely perfect, the quality was superb and their customer service was amazing. I will definitely order from them again when the need arises. just my .02

    Vintage Mopar Muscle

I used to live in Chambersburg and I had been to Shively Motors several times asking about their racing history and literally NONE of the people there could tell me anything. I was really disappointed. Heck, Chambersburg has a history dating back 100 years before then and not many people know...

    451 build update

Throw a shift kit in that 727, takes about an hour to install and really makes a difference! Swap to a deeper pan while you are in there to extend fluid life/keep the transmission fluid cooler. Simple upgrades that will enhance performance and dont cost a ton=well worth it...

383 or 440 which would you build?

I dont know how many times I had to explain to people that the 383 in my Newport was NOT a stroked SBC..."Oh I didnt know Mopar built a big block 383" and yes...saying "eh, it's just a little 440" definitely gives you the cool-guy factor, not to mention more power to begin with!

    temp gauge hook up help

Installing a temp gauge probe into the side of the block wont hurt anything as there are no moving parts inside the block cooling passages, so dont worry about that. Just make sure to route the line from the sending unit to the gauge away from the header/manifold to prevent melting.

Installing glass hood scoop on steel hood

I have a fiberglass max wedge scoop for my 63 Polara that I have yet to install for this very reason. Does anyone have any close-up pictures of the seam left from the installation?

    Clutch Recommendations

It is funny you mention the "three finger clutch" as the guy who sold me the car told me that included with the car is a brand new "three finger clutch." Never having a 4 speed before I had never heard of this, and sure enough in the trunk is a brand new purple anodized clutch. The reason why I...

My soon to be '65 Belvedere I (real) barn find!

That is no 360, or even poly 318....the distributor is up front which screams BIG BLOCK! Could be a 361, 383, 413, or a 440 even....only way to tell is to check the ID pad either behind the distributor (361 or 383) and immediately to the right of the thermostat housing (413 or 440). Either way...

    Carb tech?

What kind of fuel pressure are you running? Carbureted vehicles dont like excessive fuel pressure. I would recommend no more than 5.5-7 PSI of fuel pressure. Install an in-line fuel pressure gauge to see what's happening.

    Clutch Recommendations

Hey all, I need to replace the clutch in my 63 Polara. It has a 440 from a 1969 Polara Police Car with a mild cam, headers, single plane intake, Holley 850 double pumper, MSD Ignition, and an as-of-yet unidentified (18 or 23 spline) 4 speed with a date code of June 21 1969. It has 2.76 rear...

    Identify my 18-spline

I know this might be kinda grasping at straws here but does anyone know the measurement differences? The clutch in mine is getting worse and worse every day, and I am almost to the point where I am going to have to pull the tranny back to count the splines.

    Is this bad?

Those plastic timing gears are horrible and are a curse upon the MoPar name! They may have been a good idea at the time to keep things quiet but after a few decades of being heat cycled/doused in oil they become brittle and break apart into a million little pieces that end up in the bottom of...
