318 surges at idle, stalls in gear

I swapped the baseplate gasket with a crappy one in a kit. Once I put that in the idle evened out, but started having this nasty whine (ear peircing). I assume it's a vacuum leak. I'm going to swap the gasket out. I'll let you knw

318 surges at idle, stalls in gear

I have a 318 I just rebuilt, 500 miles into it idles rough, and surges about 130-250 rpms then drops back down Initially I thought it was a vacuum leak, so I tighened everything up, started it, and sprayed water around the mating surfaces. No change in RPM. If I put my hand over the horn...

    This is sickening....

I'm with you on that. No way in hell I could stand there and watch that happen. Even if I couldn't take all 3 of them, I'd sure as hell get my point across and make them think twice before they decide to do something as stupid as that again. As for no one stepping in, we are creating a society...

    Just Started

Primary bowl is filling up past the float. I've swapped the needle/seat as well as the float. WHy is this happened? Fuel pressure is just under 6 psi. THis is only happening on the the primary side, the secondaries are fine. I'm stumped, no matter how much I adjust the float level, it fills...

    360 to 318

I put the 318 in without changing anything on the converter. I've never had my car drive so smooth. After 3 years of driving the car with a bad converter. (I had the tranny +converter rebuilt by a shop, that solely does trannys.) I figured they'd know how to balance it, and never thought it to...

    Engine Break In Process

Haha thank you. Just ran it, throttle cable broke right out of the gate. Jerry rigged it to keep moving. Did a bunch of runs, high RPMS then let it idle down. Engine ran great, I was chasing a vibration for the longest time. Ended up being the torque converter unbalanced on a 360 (horrible)...

    Engine Break In Process

DOne that already! I'm going to start it, break the cam in first, and if all goes well finish the break after. My biggest worry is a leak, or something stopping the break in process. I've checked and double checked everything. So wish me luck. I'm using the Competition Cams 159 Engine...

    Engine Break In Process

bring RPM right up to 2000 rpm, keep RPMs moving between 2000-3000 rpm, do not idle and do not go under 2000 rpm. Do this for 20-30 min. This is to break in the cam, the cam's only oiling is from splash oiling First time breaking in a new motor. I have oil + additive in the motor and ready...

    360 to 318

Bump I'm sorry for the being stupid. But is that ^^^ a neutral balanced converter? Also, how can you tell? I appreciate it

    360 to 318

No weighted flex plate. So based off the image you can determine that it's a neutral balance converter?

    360 to 318

Here is what the converter looks like. I pulled it out and there were no weights anywhere, except for maybe there the bolt threads are. I always had a vibration from 2000-3000 RPMS, and had a rough idle. Is it possible that the tranny shop put an unbalanced converter in? I was told to...

Harmonic Balancers for steel cranks? 318

I didn't know that. I rented a balancer puller/installed and it went on pretty smoothy. With the longer bolt, I was pulling my 360 out (plan on giving it to my brother for his dakota) and stole the balancer bolt from that. Which ended up being plenty long.

Harmonic Balancers for steel cranks? 318

I had purchased another balancer and it had the same problem, so i purchased this one. They were the same thickness. I was just worried that the space would cause problems. However I guess that isn't the case! Thanks.

Harmonic Balancers for steel cranks? 318

I'm having a problem with my balancer on a 318 i'm building. I bought the engine with the bottom end built, so I have no info on the crank. Do steel cranks require a harmonic balancer? This is the problem i'm having. I cannot get the harmonic balancer bolt to get near the crank. it...
