im not sure what you mean "small End" both sides use the same size u-joint. the large round counterbalance is at the transmission. isn't that where it should be?
its a 67 coronet r/t with a 67 440 and a later model A833 OD. 4:10 gears.
the car is as smooth as can be until i start approaching 70. the vibration starts around 65 and goes away around 80.
its a pretty fast frequency so it feels like drive shaft related.
i changed both u-joints, there...
Yes. The speedo was working fine for 30 or so miles. I think it has something to do with it turning that extra digit for the first time after sitting for so long.
It still logs the correct speed, it just jumps 10 or 20 mph when I hear the click and the odometer will not turn the last number...
I finally reached 10000 miles on my coronet. It sat with 9968 for decades. I put the proper speedometer gear in the tranny and a new speedo cable and watched it turn to 10000. Now it won't go to 10001.
I hear a click and the speedo needle jumps. It almost sounds like a gear stripping trying...
I fully intend on doing so as when i was repairing this i did notice a bit of movement in the idler arm. when i change that, the whole center link will come out for inspection.
thanks for the info.
I flipped the inner tie rods around 180 degrees. I had to use the Mancini racing lower ball joint tool to press them out. It ball joint shafts looked ok. I really couldn't tell if the center link was messed up but the joints seem to fit in ok.
The difference was apparent immediately as the...
that's good advice as always, thanks. im hoping to find time tonight to make things right. i am looking forward to a ride without constant tire squeal.
Are you saying that you bought offset upper control arm bushings and they are not as wide as the originals?
The moog offset bushings have washers that have to be pressed on each end after there installed in the control arm. Maybe they are the same and the washers were not in the box
hi,
im looking for the heater control knobs for a non a/c car. they are kind of rectangular.
also do you have an upper steering column trim piece? its the chrome u shaped piece that goes over the column.
your mailbox is full
Wow that's great info! That's gotta be the problem. It looks like the center link is in right but the inner tie rods are out 180!
I'm gonna try that tomorrow and see how it goes.
Thank you!
It's a very very low mile car with 40 years between its first batch of miles and the 50 I've put on it since it's been on the road again. I guess that in itself could be the problem. Dry rotted rubbers than torn up when finally used again. As I said I did change the upper bushings to install...
the only thing that has not been checked/replaced are the lower control arm bushings, i guess i should move to those next. of course those require complete dis-assembly of everything...we shall see.
i believe the squeal i hear is from toe in with the nose raised under acceleration. when the car sits at ride height, i have to set nearly 1/2" toe out to get satisfactory results while driving. with this much toe out at ride height, just raising the nose 1" brings me to zero toe.
i did...
If I set the toe at ride height the car is nearly undrivable, the from tires start to sqeal as soon as it step on the gas and the nose rises a bit. I really can't understand how toe can change so drastically with so little suspension movement. Something has to be wrong.
I would love to...
Bump steer-can it be this bad?
i have a 67 coronet, sits just a bit lower than stock. if i set my toe properly (0-1/8 toe in) while sitting at ride height, the tires squeal while driving. it appears the rise in the front end while under power puts the tires toe in.
what i have done to get...
