My free 69 charger R/T restoration

Test fit number one of what I’m sure will be many. So far not looking to shabby all things considered. Also for the step wells in and replaced my rear lower window channel. I had one made since I know a good metal guy and it was over $300 by the time it landed here in Canada.

My free 69 charger R/T restoration

Not a huge update but I did manage to get the front floor and rear seat pan burned in. Trunk floor is fitted so next I will mock in the rear door jamb and 1/4 window supports and then fit the 1/4s, deck filler tail panel etc to make sure everything is looking good.

My free 69 charger R/T restoration

Got the rear crossmember and leaf hangers welded on min. Also the rear seat pan and trunk floor test fit. Everything is looking and measuring good so I marked out the rails from the understide to prep the floors for drilling.

My free 69 charger R/T restoration

Some progress. Torsion crossmember burned into the rockers. Got the rockers all welded together minus a few plug welds. Front floor braces are welded in as well. Had to take apart my new front leaf spring mounts as they were all jacked up. Goodmark I bought 8 years ago (they are junk). Anyway I...

My free 69 charger R/T restoration

NXcoupe, I spent 3 days over the last 2 weeks rechecking the jig for level. Rechecking and adjusting the frame rails and rockers for level and squareness and locking them in place spent some time today burning some stuff together permanently. Soon ready to lay in the floors. Front is ready to...

My free 69 charger R/T restoration

Kern, I haven’t even been on the sites much in the last few years. Mopars have taken a back burner. New little one in fall of 18. Covid messing stuff up. Some work stuff keeping me busy. Car accident etc. Anyway, back at her now in full force.

My free 69 charger R/T restoration

Thanks Nxcoupe and eldubb440, I think I got it. Issue was there is a semi-circle cut into the rear of the frame rail and a hole punched in the rear cross rail that is suppose to sit inside the semi-circle. The semi-circle was in the wrong spot on the rail not allowing the crossmember to be...

My free 69 charger R/T restoration

Hello everyone. It’s been a minute. I’m finally getting back at the charger after way too long. (Such is life). I am wondering if anyone who has installed rear frame rails, and crossmember in their 68-70b body has seen this. There is a bit of a gap between the tab so the rail and the...

    Spot welder for panel replacement

I had a 120v one when I was working on that dart last year but didn’t find it made welds I was confident in , at least not for structure on a unibody. That’s why I borrowed the 220v one. It did however make factory looking dimples after you ground the plug welds smooth.

    Spot welder for panel replacement

This is the exact one I used and bought, I like it although I’m having some trouble getting mine set up. It came with the large tongs like Shown in your picture on the cart. I put on the 6” and the tongs stick to the the steel when making a weld. Didn’t have this issue with the one I had borrowed.

    Spot welder for panel replacement

I borrowed a Miller 220v hand held spot welder last summer to weld quite a few panels on a dart at work. Worked really well and the welds are strong and look factory. I liked it so much I bought the identical one. $2000cdn from the local miller dealer.
