Tech tips from the "Fast and the Furious"

Could be... or maybe it was Fox News. Or a WH press conference. Or a DNC interview. Or hee haw. Or maybe the hunger games. I get it all mixed up nowadays, it's all so similar.

Tech tips from the "Fast and the Furious"

I like the Dukes analogy! You may be right! RE where I saw it, a buddy loaned me a DVD. Not sure of its origin? I will ask if you'd like...

Tech tips from the "Fast and the Furious"

So, last night I watched the first half of "Fast 8". Hey, I figured there's a Charger in it, right? Before falling asleep, I was very impressed with the tech tips demonstrated in it that I hadn't known before. Can't wait to try them out! Such as: - You can use Nitrous Oxide for extended...

    New 440 diagnostic help?

Sorry I wasn't clear.... it was previously fully shut when cold. I adjusted it so it was open about a quarter inch when cold to give it a bit more air as previously it was so rich it wouldn't start cold at all.

    New 440 diagnostic help?

Thanks all. Things running a fair bit better after I cracked-open the choke when cold, turned down idle mix, and backed off the idle screw. Float levels look spot on. Timing is at about 19 btdc, which sounds about right. Also re-tightened the header bolts. After a drive last night the plugs...

    New 440 diagnostic help?

Thanks all! I cracked open the choke a bit when cold, and turned down the idle mix screws to about 1 turn out, good vacuum and it is starting and idling pretty good now. Still pretty stinky on startup and a bit of black smoke, but overall OK. Will put the timing gun on it tonight. Car is I...

    New 440 diagnostic help?

Yeah, did some more research, and half the material says it's running too lean, other half says too rich. Spark plug says the latter, as I suspected. And RE the differences in header temps, seems that at off-idle the fuel mixture is too irregular and there are too many other variables to...

    New 440 diagnostic help?

Howdy, I have a newly-built 440 that isn't running right. Difficult to start, lousy idle. It's got a mild cam on it, and the carb is a QuickFuel 750 SS, new out of the box. I think it's running really rich, not sure why. I've adjusted the idle mixture screws to lean the idle mixture out...

    Distributor orientation

Thanks for the replies everyone. The cap is installed on the distributor correctly (there's a slot), I just believe that the distributor itself is in 180 degrees out from "norm", and the #1 wire is where #6 is shown on Dave's diagram. I'll take a look at the vacuum diaphragm and if it's got...

    Distributor orientation

Basic question here - just got my '67 Satellite back from the shop where they did an engine swap (from a 318 to a 440). It's not running particularly well - my primary suspicion is the carb tune is way out of whack. But in the process of trying to troubleshoot a few basics I noticed that...

    Big wheels on Bbodies

Here's my '67 with 17's on it. I like the white-letter tire thing, tire paint pens took care of that (and a red stripe too).
