    Erson Hydraulic Roller Lifters

I've not done the B3 mod. 2 threads showing on all the adjusters with half a turn of preload, stripe looks good. I'll try adding a touch more preload, otherwise the only thing I can think is that a couple of the pushrods are interfering with the head. I'll pull the shaft and see if I can see any...

    Erson Hydraulic Roller Lifters

Oiling looks fine - it pools up on the top of the rocker shaft within half a minute of start up. I'll try and attach a short vid here - it's the clicking noise, particularly above idle when i blip the throttle. Still sounds like a lifter I think? Guess I could try adding another 1/4 turn of preload?

    Erson Hydraulic Roller Lifters

It's the whole Harland Sharp set up, inc the shafts. The oil holes are in line with the mounting studs. I'll run it up this eve and check the oiling again.

    Erson Hydraulic Roller Lifters

Has anyone experience with these? I just fitted a set into my 505 stroker and there's quite a lot of mechanical noise. Not the ticking you get with a bad lifter, more like a loud rustle that seems to diminish a bit with RPM. I've gone through and set the preload at half a turn from zero lash a...

505 Stroker woes, comp lifter failure, hammered rockers

The pushrods were all different lengths! - they also weren't drilled properly for oiling!! I measured up for new custom pushrods for the erson lifters and when fitted the adjustments were identical across the head.

505 Stroker woes, comp lifter failure, hammered rockers

Bit of an epic (new kids will do that) but I ended up sorting things myself and finally fired it up last night - sounds smooth! A little more tweaking and it'll be time for a test drive. Ended up going with Harland Sharp rockers and new custom pushrods from Smith Bros (who incidentally are...

505 Stroker woes, comp lifter failure, hammered rockers

They're EZ1s. I'm pretty sure the rockers are Comp rather than Harland Sharp. I'm going to pull it sometime in the next couple of weeks and give it a strip down. Hopefully there won't be much else wrong with it. The very nice gents at IMM Engine in Indio have agreed to have a look.

Let's see some engine shots !

Coming out! Hopefully to be reborn, bigger, faster, stronger. Well...faster and stronger at least.

505 Stroker woes, comp lifter failure, hammered rockers

Regarding the adjusters. Quote from the builder - "The valve height can't be that far off. Since the pushrods are cut by hand that must be the difference." So a pro builder can't make a set of pushrods the same length??? Blimey. Ah well, he says he's going to send me a check to have it fixed...

505 Stroker woes, comp lifter failure, hammered rockers

New from the builder - set up, broken in and dyno'd (I never got the dyno charts.) I've given them one more shot to agree some sort of remedy, after that I'll pull the motor and strip and document any other problems with it. I really appreciate all the advice.

505 Stroker woes, comp lifter failure, hammered rockers

Hopeless! They did send a new set of Erson lifters but nothing so far to address the problem with the rockers and the crummy machine work on the piston. Nothing remotely resembling an apology, even though they admitted a lot of problems with Comp Lifters in their builds. They don't answer...

505 Stroker woes, comp lifter failure, hammered rockers

I'm going to go with sloppy machining. All the horizontal grain looks like it's from a belt sander. The circular marks are deeper. I'm no expert but not what I'd expect to find in a 'high performance' crate build.sucks!

505 Stroker woes, comp lifter failure, hammered rockers

I'm going to try and ask a local engine builder I guess. Doesn't exactly inspire confidence in the original build though, especially as we're talking less than 400 miles on an all new motor. Thanks all for the tips.

505 Stroker woes, comp lifter failure, hammered rockers

I just filtered the pics so the adjusters were easier to see. The head looks fine! Bit sooty but no marks to the valves or the head. Similar marks on the other Pistons to a lesser extent.

505 Stroker woes, comp lifter failure, hammered rockers

Yup - I talked myself out of a solid roller which was stupid. I'll have to measure the adjuster and cups when I get back down to the garage - didn't seem like there was any problem with the fit. More things that make me uncomfortable - odd interference, machine marks on the piston crowns. Anyone...

505 Stroker woes, comp lifter failure, hammered rockers

The pushrods don't look as bad as they might do, the cups are pretty hammered but the lifter end is realtively OK. It was a crate motor from a reputable shop. I've never set up Hyd lifters before but that sort of variance in adjustment can't be normal right?

Here's a pic of some of the rockers.

505 Stroker woes, comp lifter failure, hammered rockers

Wondered if I might ask the collective's advice on some problems I'm having? I'm running a not too aggressive lift Comp Cam hydraulic roller pushing Harland Sharp Rockers in an Indy EZ headed, 505 stroker RB. Within less than 400 miles of getting the engine running, I experienced a big loss of...

    Greetings from LA

Hello all, I've a 63 Fury Convertible (or partially assembled pieces thereof) - it's running a 505 stroker and is currently getting new lifters, new fuel lines, new fuel pump and new headers and exhaust. ...And whatever else I find that's wrong with it in the meanwhile....the list keeps...
