My build sheet says Carb 62. So according to the parts book it originally came on a 440? My original engine is a 383, “RM23N0G”. Am I reading the parts sheet wrong?
I have a 70 RR, 383 auto, with AC. When I got it it had a Holley on it and I’m pretty sure it’s a 650cfm. I’m looking to replace it but not sure that’s what came on it from factory. Anybody know for sure.
I pulled the column out and it looks like it may have taken a light hit. The outer jacket looks like it is bunched up (collapsed) just a little. Does the steering shaft itself collapse also?
I don't think it has collapsed but the plastic retainers are rotted and busted. I have new ones to install. I'm headed back to the shop to check the mesh to see if its deformed. Will let you know.
The manual for my 70 RR says the end cap on the steering coupler should be 13/16ths from the small indent on the steering shaft. Mine is 1 3/16 from that dot. Don't know how I can move the shaft into the coupler any more. Are the "shoes" in the coupler in backwards maybe? Or is that even...
I found this broadcast sheet under the front seat of my 1970 Roadrunner and thought it was for my car. It is only 56 cars back from mine from the same plant. Would like to reunite it with its car if anyone out there has it. If you have this car you can have the sheet free!
I had the same problem with my 70 RR. I found that the thin brass ring under the switch with the ground wire on it was missing the plastic or nylon (whatever it was) insert that goes around the inside ring. It was shorting out and causing the horn to sound all the time. I rigged it up with some...
Well I just went out to the garage and checked the fluid and it isn't milky after setting overnight. I topped it off and jacked the wheels off the ground agin, started it and turned the wheel center to center several times. Checked the fluid, was low, topped it off and turned some more. Fluid...
RJ, this is the 2nd pump from Advance, same issue. I don't have my original pump, (core exchange).
I think I will just go to Steer and Gear and get one.
Hi Pops,
I put new hi pressure and return line hoses on it. I blew them out to make sure no blockage. The box is new also. I will try moving the valve like you suggested.
Thanks!
Its a keyed Saginaw. The key is in place so it shouldn't be spinning on the shaft but I will double check that today. I'm wondering if there is a blockage inside the gear box. The pump install booklet says milky/foamy fluid is a sign of blockage. Pulling the box would be a JOB!
Thanks diesel...
I just replaced the power steering pump on my 70 RR 383 Automatic and I have no power assist. I installed it, filled it with fluid, jacked the front wheels off the ground, gave it 4 for 5 short bursts with the starter. It didn't seem to take any fluid so I put the coil wire back on and started...
Thanks Troublemaker, I didn't realize I could adjust it at the firewall. When I get ready to install I will be sure to adjust it and hope that cures my horn problem.
Is there supposed to be a bearing or bushing at the bottom of my 70 Roadrunner Auto on the column steering column? My steering shaft comes out of the end at an angle and touches the end of the column tube. Im sure this is whats causing the short in the horn etc. See the picture below.
