Precisely what I was thinking. At this point indications point to #4 too much oil. So... drain oil and measure amount that comes out. Pour same oil into dismounted oil pan. Measure the distance from the oil pan flange to the oil pickup and crank. Assess. Add the amount of oil that usually...
I am going by the symptoms. Smoke when I get on it after the oil is full. Massive burn down then no more smoke. Some have said the tray or lack thereof could be the issue. Others say this would not be the consumption issue.
Confused... planning to have the new tray installed Friday. I assume...
Had it put on the lift and it does not look like it have a windage tray.
Ordering something like this

The reason I’m thinking it must not be rings or valve guides or anything mechanical like this is because wouldn’t the oil bypass happen whether there were 4 or 5 quarts in the engine or 7?
The fact that it only happens when the oil level is under 7 makes me think it must be pickup windage or...
Don’t think the plugs are fouling as it’s running very strong. The plug cables used to foul out due to heat from headers. Now have ceramic boots and runs great.
I just found an article that said the below. I have all 3 items!
1) high capacity pump
2) pickup
3) stroker
Makes me wonder if I definitely should be only using 4 or 5 quarts.
The below is an excerpt from

OK, I have been perplexed by this for sometime. I recently put a 505 stroker in my 68 Charger. It also has a Moreso oil pan which definitely looks high capacity - like 7 quart but not sure. For what it’s worth the engine build also specifies a 3/8 Oil Pickup and Melling High volume oil pump...
I am loving the transition to nasty big block! But... What the hell do you guys do to reduce the amount of engine heat getting into passenger compartment?!? Please share any tips.
I was thinking a manual would be fun on the car. I have actually gone back and forth on this. If I stay automatic and add overdrive to 727 it will be easier to cruise with family. Plus not to mention saving $6k.
Part of me thinks a manual would be lots of fun another part thinks a BB doesn’t...
I have a 68 Charger that has a 360 and 727 now. I’d like to convert to a 5spd and about 450-500hp. Good Tremec kits are about $6k. That leaves Labor is about $2500 including chassis reinforcement.
That leaves approx $6.5k for engine.
Option 1 New 408 Stroker
408 Stroker from Blueprint...
My order was:
brakes
shocks
15x8 and 10" magnum wheels with 295's out back
Firmfeel steering box
Suspension rebuild with poly bushings
More sporty steering wheel
Will do stroked big block and tremec 5/6 spd next ;-)
The lower deck of the arm rest in my 68 Charger has a couple splits in the vinyl. Wondering if you guys typically re-cover or buy the whole new piece. If re-cover is that a DIY?
I think it went into the booster as I heard a sound like something inside a can.
Do I need to wedge the hose back in before starting? Of the piece is in the booster would starting it damage something?
My power brakes required a hard push even with Wilwood discs and master cylinder. Someone suggested I remove the booster check valve right after shutting off engine. He said if I hear a hiss the booster is working, if I don't it is bad.
Well the valve came off but I couldn't tell if it broke...
Great perspective. And I completely agree about telling people it a big block. Lets face it. We love our cars for US and also for the joy and cool factor it gives others! No fun telling people its a 360. Figured 408 stroker would be ok. But 493 or Gen III Hemi or even Hell Cat even better...
Ok, so the net difference with going 493 stroker vs 408 stroker is about $4k. The HP/Torque difference is 525hp/600lb-ft vs 445hp/500lb-ft.
Some say the small block is the better move for better cooling and it being lighter. Decisions, de-friggin-cisions!
