A few decades ago, a guy from my former Army platoon Pro Streeted an original 39 Willys Coupe. He removed the car from a swamp in N WI. There was nothing left below about the bottom half of the car. He said he was doing this because he wanted an original car, they are extremely rare, and he...
Like Doug, I never broke the top of a KB. I have a 12.08 second 413 Dart with them. It was built to race several years ago, it only gets street use these days. I also would not risk further damage by running that engine, there is a reason why you have a second plug with the gap closed.
Yup, got the same problem as the OP with my Cross-Ram with Carter Comp Series carbs. After a week or more, the fuel has evaporated, and I have to prime. I pour a couple tablespoons of gas into each of the fuel bowls thru the passage next to the metering rod caps, and it starts great.
I figured...
Very informative thread, I've been chasing a similar problem with my 413 max wedge with 2" tubed headers. Spins great cold, spins very slow hot. Cables, grounds good, and battery load tested. Purchased an insulation kit for headers and starter, and a new mini starter recommended on this forum...
Sold my 65 Coronet 440 in Wisconsin when I was drafted in 1969. 2 dr HT, 426 Wedge HP, 4 speed, Hurst, exhaust cut-outs, 15" American mags, Mickey Thompson tires, bench seat. Originally dark blue, light grey when sold. The 440 chrome was removed and holes welded, so it may be mistaken for just a...
I have the same evaporation problem with my 413, crossram with 600 Carter Comps. I agree with the more evaporation with the Edelbrock (Carter) than the Holley. I had a 600 Eddy on my 305 Chev in my Sreetrod, I had to prime if it sat for a week or more. Have a 600 Holley now, it starts fine even...
I agree. With my 600 cfm Comp Carters, I know I'm not using 1200 cfm at WOT/5500 rpm with my non-stroked 413. 390's sell for about $500 on line. I found some on ebay for $200 each, but they come from China. Huh???
I would go with a rich/flooding condition. Holding the throttle down opens the butterflies and allows in enough air to lean it out enough to start. I would also guess mixture, floats or needle and seat. Welcome and good luck.
