The car is sold. This weekend I am going to go buy a 78 Trans Am and a 79 Z28 as a package deal for less than what I got for the 68. And I will be a whole hell of a lot happier, too.
Those are the exact bars I ended up getting. The .96 bars from PST. They are clocked correctly, and will give you a very firm ride up front. I can't see you being unhappy with them. Plus, since they are clocked correctly, they will give you the option of setting your ride height exactly how you...
And if it seems like I am on some kind of crusade against those bars, it's because I kind of am. I'm really upset that a company as known as PST doesn't care enough to tell their customers about a drastic drop in ride height.
PST was going to give me a refund...sucks that they are only willing to give you store credit. You could always roll it over into a sway bar from them, unless you already have one.
As for the Hotchkis bars, I don't know the answer to that. PST told me they were having those bars made for...
Maddart, it sounds like you are running into the exact problem everyone has with those bars, and that PST does not seem to want to address. Be really, really careful on the install. If you manage to keep them completely undamaged, when you pull them out to return them (and you will), they should...
They are lying. Return them and get the .96 bars. They are going to slam the nose of the car. PST told me they have been getting many complaints about those bars. Do NOT install them!
Propwash get those bars out of that car immediately! The second you put a drivetrain in it that is going to nosedive!!! Trust me when I tell you it won't stay at that ride height.
And, just to be clear to everyone, I am not trying to hate on PST here or anything like that. I've purchased products from them in the past and been very satisfied. I AM, however, hating on this particular product. It is poorly designed, and irresponsible of them to sell it, with zero warning...
No, I don't. I was in such a rush to get them back out again. You can duplicate the look by taking a car with normal torsion bars, and backing out the adjusters until the tires begin to tuck up into the wheel wells. Right about at the point where the bump stops are going to bump - that's about...
The stiffness of them isn't the issue. Honestly I noticed precious little difference between them and the .96 bars I just put in instead. The problem is the way they are clocked. The hexes on each end match, but on all other torsion bars they are clocked offset. Because of this, if you put the...
Don't buy those bars!!! They will dramatically slam the nose of the car...it will actually look as though there is something wrong. PST is finally being forced to update their website to tell people this, but it is too late for me, as I am out a couple of hundred bucks.
Good point Dave.
Really this whole affair has been very frustrating for me. With every passing week the car becomes more and more enjoyable...I tweak this, fix that, adjust something else. But it has been a frustrating couple of months and I've been ragged around the edges. Sometimes it...
Yes, Dave, this is the same car. No confusion. I don't really think it was necessary to post that on this thread, though. And for the record, the car does not have, nor has it ever had, any frame problems. It was a bad lower control arm, and that has been replaced, along with everything else in...
Just as a quick update, I've already gotten several very nice cash offers, but I really have to hold out until I find the right trade. This is my only car, so I need to make sure I don't end up without wheels for too long a period of time.
I am still interested in trading this car for something different. I was running an ad a few weeks ago, in a frustrated state, due to some issues the car was having. These issues were due to the timing being wrong (oops), and a bad lower control arm. That has all been sorted out, and the car...
Negative caster due to a bent lower control arm, and drivability issues that turned out to be timing (I admit sheepishly). I was just in a bad place mentally with the car, and very frustrated. I was at the point where I would have traded it in a second for something with an interior, even it...
The car is not for sale anymore. Numerous people have made incredibly insulting offers and have pissed me off. I also soled the drivability issues and the car runs like a dream again. I could kick myself for being so rash, but I'm glad I didn't make an even biger mistake by actually selling it.
That is wicked tempting for sure...if it were a 67 or a 68 I'd be giving you a call. Clean Mustang though...personally I'd keep it if space isn't an issue.

Solved!
The field wire going to the regulator had a bad terminal end connection, AND one of the wires on the OTHER side of the regulator had a dead short!
My suspicion is that...well, actually I haven't the foggiest idea what took out what or why or how. I just know that it works again!
