I just changed the fluid in my rear end a couple of days ago and it came out almost gray metallic. From what I can find on internet, this is from metal wear and particles ending up in the fluid. Should I be concerned?

My damper has nice engraved timing marks so I might try the paint trick.

As I get older, my eyes have a harder time seeing the timing marks on my damper. Anyone have tricks using paint/crayons/etc. to help the tick marks stand out? Crayons may melt with engine temp - might not be a long term solution. Thank you.
