Finally got the TF 270 heads on, the hughes 1.6 rockers on, and the pushrods in. Cam is comp hydraulic flat .545 241/247 (.581 with the 1.6 rockers) and comp lifters. Comp calling for .045 lifter preload. Seems like an awful lot of preload. Thinking the trick is to keep the inner plunger off...
70 440, .060 over, TF 270 heads
TF called for the FelPro 1009 gasket.
The gasket bores are not round. On the intake side (top) of the gasket it overhangs the bores.
So bore on the 440 with .060 should be 4.38". FelPro website says 4.41 bore size on that gasket.
I've got plenty of room on...
I am assembling my 440 and have run into a few things on the valvesprings/cam. So 2x questions - which springs and which locks?
I have the Trick Flow 270 heads - the 801-C01. The valvesprings on the head are as follows:
1.460" O.D. dual spring with damper (TFS-16893)
120 lbs. @ 1.900"...
1974 440 internal balance.
Can't see the timing mark on the balancer when setting the timing - I painted the only line on the balancer that is there with white paint and it still doesn't show up when trying to set timing. Wondering if this one has spun? Thinking I'll need to order one if I...
Finally got the 440 back together on my '74 triple black Charger. It fired right up. Carb leaks pretty badly - I need to break in the cam but don't want to use the TQ with the leaks. It looks like it's been "rebuilt" at some pint with lots of orange RTV. I think that carb goes into the...
New AMD tank, correct sender (3/8") all ready to go. Warmed up the filler neck gasket in hot water, fitted it to the tank then tried to insert the new filler neck. No dice. The diameter (OD) of the filler neck is the same as the old one (2") and the id of the gasket is 1.83". The OD of the...
Bought this 1974 Charger a few months ago. 66k original miles. Has been sitting for a long time. A number of things are disconnected and apart. Front of the motor is apart. Fuel system is apart. Brakes go to the floor. All of it seems to be there. I just put in a new cam and lifters and...

So I'm seeing a number of articles on this car and Galen G. somehow saying this is 1 of 4 440 cars with sunroof in 1974. I just bought a 1974 440 Sunroof Charger SE B. Mines triple black and all...
So trying to get the MP cast aluminum valve covers installed on my 440...what a joke. Bought the grommet kit from MP and the grommets fit the EXISTING holes! I have no source for the MP VC punch out hole grommets! My 74 needs 3 holes - PCV, Breather and filler...WTF? Anyone have a solution...
My 1974 Charger has a heap of "crap", err I mean parts in a box for the front of the motor. They were in the process of installing an underdrive aluminum pulley set. So I'm looking for a schematic of how this stuff goes together and a source for the missing stuff. My car is A/C and P/S. I...
Just joined. Been a longtime mopar guy, but haven't had a Mopar since 2020. Last one was a Dak R/T. Many others in the past.
Most recent mopar was purchased on Monday 3/28: 1974 Charger SE Brougham, 440, Triple Black, factory Sunroof, 66k Original Miles. Wyoming/Colorado car. NO RUST!! It...
