When you swapped in a milder cam, you also raised the effective, or dynamic compression ratio. Your cranking pressure is more than likely higher now than it was with the heavier cam due to the earlier intake valve closing point. 10:1 is a little on the edge for an iron headed (especially an open...
I got one of these although I can't claim credit for earning it. It came from my uncle. I was only 8 years old in '72 and couldn't troubleshoot a bicycle!!!
And create a whole bunch of other headaches in the process. Do yourself a huge favor and take one of the following guys up on his offer. DAMHIK
BTW - There are no small block/big block K frames, just 6 cyl/8 cyl. The mounting brackets make the difference and yes, Schumacher's got 'em.
Are you taliking about the shims that go underneath the rocker shafts between the shafts and the pedestals? Those are used to raise the entire rocker shaft assembly to correct for valve train geometry problems. Centers the rocker arm over the valve tip in forward/aft position as opposed to the...
Another thing you can do is what my friend did on his Nova. If you have a power steering pump you can run a hydroboost setup. He junkyard sourced all the parts. It cost him next to nothing and works great.
If you use a cannister it's not really much different than if you had the booster hooked up to you engine and the engine cut out. You get 2-3 stops and that's all she wrote. Only real difference is that when your engine stalls, you usually notice it!!!
Use a canister and upgrade the cheap pos...
This is my '65 dash. I did a quickie myself with 'chrome' spray paint. It's nowhere near as nice as a professionally re-chromed and detailed cluster but it's a helluva lot nicer than what I started out with. Just wanted to clean it up an move on to other things. I can always go back to it at a...
Yep, looks like a typical old engine to me.
Looks kinda dry, hasn't run in a while, has it?
Not to worry, a complete rebuild will take care of all that stuff.
Steer and Gear out of business? The website's non-existant.
I'm looking for the steering coupler sleeve type seal they made to replace the factory style seal/retainer.
Any ideas?
Drop the pan and change the fluid and filter if you think it needs it. If the fluid's clean and doesn't smell burnt, there's probably nothing wrong with it. Check the dipstick.
Ditto on this. I'd drop the pan too. If there's a lot of garbage down there it'll chew up the oil pump once it starts breaking down.
Does the engine run and do you have good oil pressure?
Well, you got a short somewhere!!!
My guess is the regulator smoked and took the wire with it. Could also be the electronic ignition box, if you have one.
Points or electronic ignition? Old style points type regulator or solid state?
