This is a near perfect rolling chassis that has never been wrecked. Has between 4-5000 miles and is missing the engine, exhaust system, radiator, radiator fans, engine management system and all the under hood and under dash wiring. Comes with original wheels, tires, suspension, 6-speed manual...
Guy comes by and wants to by the '74 Satellite out back to use as a street stock car on the circle track. Been sitting there for morin 10 years. Concrete bricks, wood blocks, chain link fencing, large roll of chicken wire, old steering column and collection of cop car wheels stacked on the hood...
Owner commissions a rebuild on a 340 that vibrated itself to death, and then the owner dies before it's finished.
.030" overbore, stock 3.31 stroke for 344.5 ci. Custom solid flat tappet, 9.3:1 compression, mildly ported factory iron 'O' heads. 402 lb-ft @ 4,500 rpm & 411 HP @ 5,800 rpm.
Yesterday we finally got the 424/360 back on the dyno. We built the engine in 2015 with ProComp/RaceMaster aluminum heads and just switched to a set of Indy LAX heads we've been toying with since 2010.
950 cfm TrickFlow 4150 carburetor
Edelbrock Super Victor single plane
Our ported Indy LAX...
I've had a few requests for some other examples of the art work done by my cylinder head porter, my son Cody, that we first displayed in 69gtx build thread. Steel simulated European mounts of deer and elk. Some with manufactured antlers and others with natural antlers from animals harvested...
I figure there is no production run head that should be installed right out of the box. So then, what happens if you prep a set of Stealth heads? You know, strip them, inspect all the parts, flow test them OOTB, check guide clearance, check valve roundness, back cut the valves, set the valve...
Finally getting close to dyno time.........will start it with the Victor intake, go to the dual plane RPM and then the 6-Pack. Should be ready Monday afternoon.
The Hemi blew the servo seals on the dyno because the dyno operator kicked full throttle in too quickly. No names but his initials...
448/440 we just finished, for I believe a '72 Satellite. 572 lb-ft @ 3,800 rpm and 593 hp @ 5,900 rpm
.040 over factory '72 block
10.6:1 running on 91 octane
950 Quick Fuel
Edelbrock RPM Performer dual plane
Victor cylinder heads prepared to flow just like the Trick Flow 240 CNC heads...
So, while everyone is waiting for those inexpensive TrickFlow heads.
Here are some 84cc RPM 440 heads we are finishing up. They still need to be cc'd, finish milled and assembled.
Lift.................OOTB IN/EX 2" EX tube.................Ported...
We got our hands on a pair of MP 452 heads. The same ports as the Edelbrock RPM head but with a straight sparkplug thread. The plug thread protrusion is shifted over towards the intake valve and shrouds the flow a little. But still a nice head. These are the flows we got using the stock 440 port...
The 906 intake port. Sometimes you make something pretty and nobody ever calls you back to say how it runs. I think these were supposed to go on a '70 Road Runner. The 906 up against the best OOTB RPM I ever tested. The RPM flows are from 5 or 6 years ago and flowed very near their advertised...
What I like about it is the little POS never gives up. Yep, 91 octane pump gas.
RPM...........TQ/HO
3000........450/257
3500........484/322
4000........499/380
4500........545/467

Understand from the get-go, this isn't a high performance 400 B engine build. This is what the customer wanted for his '72 Dodge pickup. Lots of things could have been done differently. But with the instructions, "My employees will be driving this truck, I don't want anything wild," we settled...
What if I'm going to race my 500" 440 on the circuit or dragstrip and run it on the street, which manifold do I use, the RPM or Victor?
Well, what rpm are you leaving the line or pulling the corners? Because if you're lugging the engine you aren't racing! Horsepower is what makes a car fast...
Seems someone is always looking for air cleaner clearance. One solution I seldom see mentioned is to raise the body of the car away from the engine. It is easily done by placing spacers of the needed distance between the k-member and the unibody. I've seen it done and is un-noticeable with a...
There has been a swarm of earthquakes here in Challis, ID and supposedly the epicenter is near a small shop off Round Valley Road. The geologists have been pounding on the door today and we still have to dyno the 505 soon. If there is a volcano I suppose we'll get the blame for that!
Turns out she's going to be 8.9:1 compression, .030 over 440 with the new 346 heads substituted for the 452 heads Pop ported and used. With his 452 heads, 2.14/1.81 valves and a 260H cam, the 440 made 404 HP @ 4,800 rpm and 483 LB-FT Torque @ 3,400 rpm.
Now we're using a Comp XE285HL and...
