Unless you do it in one shot, paint the engine compartment, drop the engine in to make the car mobile. Outside panels can be done at a later date. Unless you would like to pull the motor again.
If I'm shooting the whole car in a booth, I go with a two stage paint. For just an engine compartment I prefer to use a single stage urethane over epoxy primer on clean metal. The single stage shines real nice and if you get a little dust in it, you can sand and buff it easy. Here's the last two...
I used a thin piece of metal for strength and Jb weld. Put a little Jb then the metal clamp it together and let dry. Then apply more Jb for strength and to fill in cracks and imperfections. Solid as a rock!
Citron Yella was very translucent. A lot of clear pigment in the mix. Maybe for shine or to add depth. Double coat, let dry, double coat. Thats over light grey primer! Looks nice though
I used Eastwood frame rail spray, worked good but messy. https://www.eastwood.com/eastwood-internal-frame-coating-14oz-aerosol.html?gclid=Cj0KCQiAubmPBhCyARIsAJWNpiM_7iLbBXIcwB-g1o1EOWqJ4ZrNXb3JcEigbUKuhin57wXC6l0tBw4aAoljEALw_wcB&wickedid=559352078056&wickedsource=google&wv=3.1
I've been restoring a numbers matching 72 Charger 440 for the last few years. I have a chance to buy a 71 R/T hood at a reasonable price. Would you leave the original bulge hood or buy the 71 R/T hood? I'm doing a color change, exterior and interior, so its not 100% original.
Bought this 72 Charger Rallye a few years back. The firewall and hinge area were a mess. After many weekends of cutting, welding and grinding it looks respectable. Citron Yella.
