So are the valve covers typically painted while they are "warm" to get that wrinkle effect? Or is the paint somehow warmed up to spray it on?
In the short term, I might just dab a little flat black paint on the couple of spots that are bare on the covers so the spots don't stand out.
I have a couple of places on my Hemi valve covers where the wrinkle black paint has flaked off. I would like to just touch them up for now. Does anyone have a recommendation of where I can get the correct or similar paint to touch it up? I am not sure exactly what the paint is or how the texture...
I noticed that there seems to be a "weeping" of oil around the oil filter cap (first picture) and the PCV valve (second picture) onto the valve covers. I have installed a brand new filter and a brand new PCV valve and this odd problem persists. It almost appears that the weeping may be coming...
Update on this project: Installed the Fast Fish retainer. Also managed to work the one piece seal in to the groove. Keep in mind this was done with the engine in the car. Fast Fish seems to have a good fit in the block. Alas, after driving the car, the leak is still not gone. It might be...
The background: Last weekend I decided to clean the exhaust on my GTX of as much of the burnt oil as I could after finally addressing the rear main seal leak. While not perfectly clean, I am satisfied that I got it mostly there. My cleaner of choice was Easy Off.
The question: I noticed...
Before I begin, I have read through a bunch of the threads here about replacing the rear main seal. I also watched @Beekeeper videos on YouTube. We are getting ready to try to address the rear main seal in my GTX once and for all. The catch is we are doing this with the engine in my car. So here...
This might be a fool's errand, but I am wondering what would be the possibility of tracking down the original transmission for my GTX (or any car for that matter)? It is really the one missing piece to my car. As explained in another thread on this forum, the transmission behind my Hemi is...
Getting ready to tackle the same problem on my auto-Hemi. Have a pretty significant leak that is coming from behind the dust cover. I assume that it is likely the rear main. Hoping to get this replaced before Carlisle.
Not planning on taking the trans out since that is not necessary for the rear main job. But the oil pan will be off if that will make it easier to get to the holes.
The dust cover on the front of my transmission (as if its unique) has four bolts holding it on. The two lower holes appear to be almost completely stripped out. Anyone have any experience with having to fix this type of problem with these specific bolt holes? Would appreciate any recommendations...
If you mean the car, give me a few days. I am having a paint correction and ceramic coat done on the car this week. Will get some better photos of the car in the light next week. Frankly, it seems to rain all the time right now.
Fortunately, while we found all these ridiculous things (like the shifter brackets) while going through this car to get it road ready, we also discovered that it is otherwise and outstanding build. Every nut and bolt is new. Even under the dash looks perfect. The underside of the car is...
I have been working with a shop going through a bunch of things to get my GTX road worthy. The more we dig, the more it is apparent that the previous owner only showed this car and never drove it. Now we are finding things that my third party inspection never picked up on. Today's craziness...
All this talk about gas mileage, and I was just curious what fuel blend people are running. I am fine with running only premium unleaded if that will hold up okay. I have no need to run 87 or 89 octane. I can stomach the added fuel cost to run 93. I just wanted to get a sense of if that is...
