    Max cool option gets you the biggest thickest radiator. As an example in 1971 the big block a/c auto radiator was a 960 and only a 2 core, 959 max cool was 3 core. Just buy a max cool from Glen Ray.

    I don't want to argue, I thought maybe you did not understand how place bolts work. Spend a little time and research place bolts and how they work. They are used in critical areas like flywheels, power steering control valve castings, fan clutchs, stuff you really do not want coming loose.

    Glad you got it on there. You should be fine but look up the definition of "place bolt" like the factory fan bolts and amk repros are, they do not need lock washers.

    You use the stock place bolts, start one with like 2 threads, hold the clutch about 1/2" away from the water pump pulley as stated earlier, start the other 3, then tighten each one, one turn at a time until tight. Not fun but it can be done.

    All of the new freons are mildly flammable, 410-a was but has something added to combat it so they say. I think that is part of the reason it is taking so long for approval. Most new window air units have R-32 in them already and have for several years.

    Yes, the original 410a was invented by honeywell/ allied signal, then was called puron by Carrier. It was expensive at first then after 10 year the patents ran out and it went down to 4 bucks a pound. Now they have new stuff and of course I am told Carrier is involved again as we have cheap R32...

    And 410a and many other new refrigerants can not be used in new home units, coolers and freezers after Jan 1 2024. 410a was cheap, not anymore. It seems to be a way to force new unit sales and quadruple the freon price.

    As far as thermostats go the robershaw style flow the most, Evans, Mr gasket and others sell them, I use original nos military 180 ones that were cheap, and drill the 1/8 hole in the outer ring of the stat. I doubt the cap is the problem. If it was at 200 or more you would never get the cap off...
