Let's add to the rumor, I heard the fender scoops reduced drag almost as much as all the other mods combined. Some of the other mods added downforce and increased drag. Scoops slickened the car up.
Mine after welding it back together and the hood pins tube. This shop did nice metalwork, all the lead was put back in, cowl seams fully welded and new lead, fender edges at the front are lead. Expensive but nice work.
Yes it bothered me, had mine fixed if I ever finish the car. It also had sunken areas around the hood pins, from pressure I assume, or it was built that way, so we tubed that to the lower skin so it can't bend the hood behind the pin.

There was a TON of superbirds in the Omaha area, Lyles discount tire, 84th and L st area, had 7 of them that he owned in the 70s. I do not remember if he had a white one. There was a white bird here with rough paint but I asked around and it turns out it was an original lime green car.
